Since the latest download of Firefox, it acts like it has lost internet access. Images will not load, links just spin. After restarting, things work OK for a while and then nothing will work. I suspect an extension interaction, but I've not added any new extensions, and they have all worked OK up until the latest download update. Any suggestions?

It is possible that your firewall or other security software blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox application. Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

Does it still happen in Troubleshoot Mode?

It works fine in troubleshooting mode.

If it works in Troubleshoot Mode and in regular mode with all extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) disabled, try to find which extension is causing the problem by enabling one extension at a time until the problem reappears.

Close and restart Firefox after each change via one of these:

  • "3-bar" menu button -> Exit (Power button)
  • Windows: File -> Exit
  • Mac: Firefox -> Quit Firefox
  • Linux: File -> Quit

You can check the connection settings.

  • Settings -> General -> Network: Connection -> Settings

If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet, select "No Proxy" if "Use the system proxy settings" or one of the others do not work properly.

Thank you for your replies and suggestions. I was in the process of checking all the extensions, but had not turned them off. I restarted Firefox to get it out of troubleshooting mode, when, lo and behold, everything started working again. I don't know if there may have been a MS update glitch and/or something did not load right with Firefox, but all is good now.

Thanks again for your support.
