Firefox won't open any pages, everything else does.
Hi,
As the title says, Firefox throws "We can’t connect to the server at m.imdb.com." error every time I try to open a page while everything else works like Chrome, Edge and when I ping via command prompt I get replies and other applications. (Win 10 64-bit with latest Firefox)
I think it's a system-wide problem but I can't figure out where. I was under the impression that it's a DNS problem but it doesn't even open IP addresses like 192.168.1.1 and it doesn't open instantly, no matter it's Google.com or my router IP, instant error message.
I tried everything I could find which are:
- Refresh, clean re-install with deleting profile directory
- clearing cache and data
- Toggling these in about:config: network.http.http3.enabled, network.dns.disableIPv6, network.dns.disablePrefetch
- Enabling/disabling my adapter
- Running a couple commands:
ipconfig /flushdns ipconfig /registerdns ipconfig /release ipconfig /renew netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt netsh winsock reset catalog netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log
- Setting proxy to None
- Restarting with Troubleshoot Mode (add-ons disabled)
- Removing Firefox entry from Windows Firewall. (I haven't installed any Firewall and Anti-Virus)
- WIndows's Network Reset
- Rebooting machine and router
I'm sure there are more, these are all I can remember now.
This happened some months ago but can't seem to remember how I fixed it.
The only way it opens sites is with a VPN that sets a system proxy and setting Firefox's proxy to "Use System Proxy Settings".
Cheers
Ändrad

Does the DNS Lookup tool on the about:networking page work?
Did you recently uninstall an application that was using Visual C+ runtime components?
You can check for issues caused by a corrupted or incomplete Visual C++ installation that is missing runtime components (Redistributable Packages) required by Firefox, especially VCRUNTIME140_1.dll.
See "Visual Studio 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2022":
- https://aka.ms/vs/17/release/vc_redist.x64.exe
- https://aka.ms/vs/17/release/vc_redist.x86.exe
You may also have to install the Visual Studio 2013 Redistributable Package. You need to reboot the computer.
Yes, DNS Lookup instantly returns IP addresses.
I installed all of those visual studio redists and rebooted, didn't work.
You can create a new profile as a quick test to see if your current profile is causing the problem.
See "Creating a profile":
If the new profile works, you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.
I already removed and re-installed firefox as stated in OP.
Similarly, Mozilla Firefox not loading pages is one of the browser issues that can easily be fixed. Most loading issue is generally caused due to browser cache, intermittent connectivity, and conflicting add-ons or extensions. Even restarting the browser fixes the issue most of the time.

Did not read any of my post, clearly.
You can check the Web Console (Tools -> Web Developer) for messages about blocked content and about the presence of mixed or unsafe content.
You can check the Network Monitor to see if content is blocked or otherwise fails to load.
If necessary use "Ctrl+F5" or "Ctrl+Shift+R" (Mac: Command+Shift+R) to reload the page and bypass the cache to generate a fresh log.
Found out that if I rename the executable, everything works just fine. Any idea where in Windows it's clogged?
It is possible you use a proxy/VPN that isn't working or you have malware that modifies/block networks requests.
