thank you..this might be the cause...errors on disk..id need to schedule a disk check on reboot though

I'm concerned that this might just cause more issues for my win 7 laptop ..its a very old one..

Is that a justified concern?

Also: Approximately how long might this chkdsk and fix errors take? I have about 500Gig HD

I have no idea. But if the disk is corrupted . . . .

The time it takes to complete the scan depends upon the number of files on your hard drive and the amount of clusters that are in use by the files and it is hard to tell how long this takes, so you will just have to do this scan to make sure that the file system is healthy.

However long it takes, let it run until it's finished.

Once it is finished, this would be a good idea.

Perform a System File Check to fix corrupted system files
