I’m running Firefox 64.0 on MacOS Mojave, version 10.14.2 with a Samsung BW laser printer, SCX-4623W. I recently upgraded to a new Mac and since then I’ve had problems printing web pages in Firefox…much of each printed document is gibberish. Not an issue using Safari.

I tried reseting the Firefox printer setting. No help.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

So Switch to new mac and your having printing issue? So were talking about two different computer then? So how was your firefox installed? And firefox doesn't control the printer that is done with the printer software/driver. firefox uses the setting the print software gives it.

Thanks for your reply WestEnd. Yes, different computers but just a newer version. Firefox and all settings installed using the Mac's migration app. If it's not a Firefox issue, why do the prints come out properly using Safari?

Hi colink, does Mac still have a built-in Save to PDF option in the print dialog? I'm just curious whether Firefox can send correct output to a different "printer" than your physical printer, or whether that is gibberish as well.

Thanks for your reply jscher2000. From within Firefox I can request "Save Page As" pdf. The pdf file prints correctly.

You can check for problems with preferences.

  • delete possible user.js and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename/remove the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in current Firefox releases

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

Thanks for your reply cor-el. I reset all Firefox printer settings per Mozilla support page. No help.

I'm wondering if in transferring the app from my old machine if some Ff files got corrupted? Thinking maybe I should reinstall a fresh copy?

OK now I'm flummoxed. I download and reinstalled Ff. No help!

It would seem like the printer might be the culprit. But there are no problems printing from Safari or any other app.

Tried rebooting both the Mac and the printer. No help.

Also weird that I'm having the same issues printing from Ff on my Macbook, not just the desktop. But no problems printing from my wife's Macbook!? Mind boggling.

Have you used 'system preferences -> printers and scanners' and removed the printer, (click on the printer name and then the - (minus) icon at the bottom) and then tried adding it back again?

Thanks for your reply Fred. I hadn't but that didn't help either.

I did find that instead of printing off the Ff page I can download the pdf document and it prints just fine from Preview, which is what I'll do now pending a solution.
