Firefox default user account confusion

more options

Just a minute ago, when I opened FIrefox, I was given the option of using one of two user accounts - "default" and a different default account that included a bunch of numbers. I went with the plain vanilla "default" but now see that I should of used the other one, since Firefox now thinks I'm new to the browser. So how do I get this option back so I can enter the Firefox world on the other default account.

This doesn't have to do with opening the browser to a default page, or making Firefox my default browser.

It has to do with Firefox recognizing who I am and using all the functionality that I had added to it. I call this a "user account," because it seems most similar to the different user accounts I can establish using Windows.

Thanks - Doug

Let's call them profiles. Exit out of Firefox, and start up in the profile manager. To do that, you can use the Windows "Run" dialog, either:

  • On the lower part of the Start page with all the small icons, find Run
  • Press the Windows key and R together

In the Run dialog, type or paste the following and press Enter (note: the space is important:

firefox.exe -P

The Firefox profile manager should open. Don't delete anything here!

Any time you want to switch profiles, exit Firefox and return to this dialog.

Click the profile you want to use and Start Firefox in that profile.

Success?
