I had this problem for a bit now and most sites work but some DO NOT render the CSS properly. At first I though it was a Firefox problem, but it turns out when I use IE I have the same results on some sites.

This is on my main computer with Win7 Ultimate. On my slow old netbook running Win7 Ultimate, everything works fine.

FYI I have cleared, deleted, scanned everything. Safe mode, same thing. What in underlying system is running CSS rendering?

Any help appreciated.

You guys are stars.

The web console solved the problem I created. I use my hosts file to block some unwanted / nasty sites. Well somehow I put in a block for important js content. oops ... that one's on me.

So this was not a CSS problem after all but a content blocking problem.

This really helps, thanks.

What is the site? So others can see if they get the same problem. But if you also get the same problem on another site then it could be the site your or your system O/S is having issues.

Hi kidzrback, if you suspect the CSS might not be loading at all -- the page looks like an unstyled dump of plain HTML -- the problem sometimes is caused by failure to make a secure connection to a secondary server. You can use Firefox's Network Monitor tool to see what Firefox is requesting and what kind of response there is from the server, if any.

To open the Network Monitor in the lower part of the tab, you can use either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > Web Developer > Network
  • (menu bar) Tools > Web Developer > Network
  • (Windows) Ctrl+Shift+e

When you reload the page (Ctrl+r), Firefox should start listing all the files it is requesting, along with information about whether the request was successful.

What security software do you have?

It is possible that your security software is intercepting the connection and is blocking these CSS files if it happens with other browsers as well.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support to see if that has effect in case security software is causing problems.

I will try these responses. Remember most sites work ..... only 2 that I work with haven't. My internet cable site where I go to log in and it just hour glasses me and never can log in. There is also a site on ebates for their gift card section. It just doesn't show any available cards. Where on my other computer both work fine.

Can you post a link to a publicly accessible page (i.e. no authentication or signing on required)?

You can check the Web Console to see if there are messages about blocked content.

If you use extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) that can block content (Adblock Plus, NoScript, Disconnect, Ghostery, Privacy Badger, uBlock Origin) always make sure such extensions do not block content.

Firefox shows the shield icon at the left end of the location/address bar in case Content Blocking is blocking content.

  • click the shield icon for more details and possibly disable the protection

You can check the Web Console about what content is blocked
