I submitted a ticket to Roboform and got this response....

Please let me know whos fault/problem this is so I can either switch browsers or switch password managers (still have close to a year subscription left but this non-toolbar is a deal breaker so I would gladly leave early).

Obviously it's an extra step to access a drop-down menu than to click a displayed button on a bar. But is the drop-menu less complete than the old horizontal toolbar?

The last regular release of Firefox that will support old-style extensions is Firefox 56, so that doesn't take you very far. The Extended Support Release of Firefox 52 will continue to run old-style extensions and get security updates through next June.

I'm not sure if you can roll back the change from toolbar to button/menu simply by switching to Firefox 52 ESR. Another user rolled back to an unspecified older version and did get the toolbar back, but I don't know which one it was. https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1165132

Thanks everyone for looking into this. I thought I was losing my mind. I just upgraded to RoboForm 8 "everywhere" and am not having a great time with it. Now that this FireFox issue has come up, it is even worse. Honestly, I moved to FireFox for 3 reasons: I can't use PayPal multi-order shipping in Chrome, I like saving some, not all, passwords in FireFox because FireFox has them password protected, and probably most important, I had my RoboForm Toolbar which I use a hundred times a day. So, like above comments above, I'm going to have to think about another browser unless I can get used to this blasted RoboForm Toolbar on the bottom. Who looks at the bottom of the screen for a toolbar...or anything?! I'm looking forward to hearing how others are coping and if there is a better browser out there.

I totally agree with you. I was furious with this change and stopped using Firefox for a week or so (went back to IE which is the only one supporting the roboform toolbar).

Unfortunately IE has been practically abandoned by Microsoft so it runs very slow on everything and even displays some websites wrong. So I went back to Firefox and tried to install and older version of Roboform that still has the toolbar.

Unfortunately while it DOES display and work with Firefox it causes crashes. So I am afraid that based on many days of non stop testing, reinstalling, cleaning installations, removing regentries, etc. to make it work it seems to be impossible to restore the old Roboform toolbar after one has already upgraded to the new one.

There must be remnants (files or registry entries) left behind of the new roboform toolbar after downgrading that cause Firefox to crash constantly when visiting https websites (not always but several times a day).

I am truly very, very upset and I honestly don't know what to do. I can't believe Firefox went this route. If having roboform as a lower toolbar is my only option I may end up having to switch to Chrome and dump Firefox all together as protest for what they did to us with this inconsiderate move.

Too;bar at bottom doesn't work for me as it covers up part of the window and prevents some buttons from displaying. The Roboform "Buttom" icon is slow and doesn't respond as quickly as it did when it was a toolbar.

Have tried Chrome but it has features on bookmarks I don't like.

No idea what I will end up doing. May have to look for another password manager.

I support the concern raised here and I would like to ask Mozilla to keep this issue open. This issue should NOT be marked as Solved, for it is NOT solved.

Furthermore, lets be clear, Roboform is NOT responsible for this problem. Firefox caused this unhappiness amongst Firefox and Roboform customers because Firefox decided to deprecate the feature on Firefox that made it possible for Siber systems to create the Roboform toolbar that the customers of both Firefox and Roboform want, like and expect.

Sure, Firefox owns its browser and you can do with it as you please if you don't care about your customers. However we are UNHAPPY with the decision and we hope that all this messages are being passed on to the people at Mozilla who took this very unpopular decision that is causing many of us to desperately look for another browser that will fulfill our needs.

As a user of Firefox and Roboform for over a decade I dont think that I am alone in this frustration and I honestly don't think that Mozilla wants all of its Firefox users to remove Firefox and move to another browser.

Perhaps Mozilla didn't realize that their change would cause so much anger and put at risk the use of Firefox by all of its customers. Hopefully somebody can escalate this issue to the right level at Firefox so that they can reconsider.

If none of the moderators in this forum can do that, perhaps you can tell us what is the appropriate avenue for that.

Did anyone try the 'solution' I provided earlier. With me the Roboform toolbar sticks, even after File->Exiting Firefox multiple times. (One has to tag 'Show lower Roboform toolbar' in Firefox-add-ons of course.

Yes, I tried that solution. I also know that a lot of the people raising complaints about Roboform to both Mozilla and Firefox have tried it to.

We DO NOT like that solution because it requires us to move our sight and mouse to the lower part of the screen which is an area we never visit and don't want to visit.

Furthermore, in my personal case that solution is NOT stable. Roboform CRASHES multiple times a day with that lower toolbar enabled.

Okay, thanks. Personally, I have -not- been using the lower toolbar for some time, so I can't comment on the crashing thing. I used to click on the toolbar Roboform button and then selected the password from the drop down there. Will leave it the Roboform toolbar on now, see what happens.

Actually, I am afraid things will not change soon. These Roboform issues seem to be the results of Firefox introducting 'Web Extensions'.

When looking at what Firefox has in mind with their v57 (allegedly to be introduced in November this year), see chapter 'Change is hard' in cnet article 'Firefox fights back'

Thanks for sharing that article that describes the reasoning for why Mozilla is making all of these changes.

Frankly I find the current version of Firefox to be VERY fast on my computer system, and I don't see any difference in speed with Chrome.

I tested Chrome just a couple of days ago to see if wanted to switch to it (now that Firefox has gotten rid of its most powerful customization feature) and I did NOT find it appealing AT ALL. What I could do with one click on Firefox requires 2-4 clicks on Chrome. In fact I found Chrome to be so horrible that I have removed it from my system all together.

I also don't believe that Firefox's upcoming release will be the big hit that their CEO thinks it will be, as I don't think that people have switched to Chrome because they wanted a faster browser. I think they switched to Chrome because Google has such a powerful brand and has encouraged people to try it. It has links to the Google services that people use often, etc.

But a you say, we shall see what happens. In the meantime I think that I have finally managed to get a stable system again (at least for the past 3 hours) by downgrading both Firefox and Roboform by quite a few versions (recent downgrades caused it to crash).

I may stay on this version if it remains stable and not upgrade until I am fully convinced that other guinea pigs have confirmed that Roboform has under the upcoming Firefox, a user friendly toolbar that offers at last the same ease and speed as the previous one.

I keep ALL my bookmarks and passwords on Roboform Everwhere service, and it syncs with Roboform on the desktop and Roboform on my Iphone.

Roboform on the iphone comes with a browser and as such I do all my navigation from there. Fully integrated and very elegant solution. Best I have seen....until Mozilla broke it.

Once Mozilla switches to webextensions totally, then it will not work and be a new issue. Although a TON of stuff wont work any more Mozilla does not care. If you stay on a version of Firefox old enough to not have the webextension (or the "follow the leader rather than be yourself" syndrome as I like to call it since it is a lot longer winded and makes more sense as Mozilla gets touchy feely with Google) and Roboform 8.3.5.5 you should not have any problems. If you are, I would check what else you have installed in Firefox that could be causing the issues.

Mozilla probably does not even read this as, like I said, they just don't seem to care what anyone thinks any more. Oh well we shall see what happens down the line but everyone reading this could always post another thread or find an email address to contact Mozilla directly and voice your opinion.

I am very sorry indeed, but I noticed that after reboot of my pc the Roboform toolbar did not stick. Regretfully so. Meaning that my 'solution' does not work, at least not with me.

I apologize for this. Really assumed this would work... but should have restarted the pc to re-check it then.

From what I understand above is that you are still 'enjoying' the good-old way of working with Roboform?

You raise an interesting point. I have gotten Roboform to finally work on my computer using an old version of Firefox and an old version of Roboform. However, just like with you the solution doesn't work anymore when I restart the computer.

I understand that there is a difference in that you are trying to get the lower toolbar (of the new version of Firefox) to stick when you reboot your PC and I am trying to get the old upper toolbar of Firefox to work when I reboot. But the similarity of the issue breaks apart during reboots.

I bet the issue is being caused by stuff being left behind in our systems by either Firefox or Roboform. With stuff, I mean registry entries or libraries that are incompatible between versions and cause the crash. Why can't every program clean-up their installations 100% to avoid this nightmares.

Congratulations for having a stable Firefox/Roboform solution. Unfortunately that same combination you mentioned crashes for me and a few other friends that are experiencing the exact same issue as me. So while the issue may be resolved for you, it is not resolved for many of us. For some strange reason the solution seems to be unreliable in that it doesn't work for everyone. I suspect that either Firefox or Roboform left incompatible stuff (libraries or registry entries) behind that are causing the crashes on some people and not on others depending on what versions they have installed before. Perhaps you didn't install the same versions as I did and that is why your system works and mine doesn't.

If you stay on a version of Firefox old enough to not have the webextension .... and Roboform 8.3.5.5 you should not have any problems. If you are, I would check what else you have installed in Firefox that could be causing the issues.

That is exactly what I am trying to do, but the crashes continue. I have now found a combination of old roboform and old firefox that is stable, but this morning it stopped working when I rebooted the computer. Had to reinstall and I am hoping that tomorrow morning it will not have fallen apart again.

This can't be normal! Sure, yours works (hopefully after reboot), but not for many of us...and sometimes only for the day. Something is totally wrong.

Oh, and as to conflicting extensions I only have a total of 3 extensions in the entire Firefox environment. All 3 have worked together for years. They are Roboform, Adblock, and Deskcut.

Does anyone still have 8.3.1 there? If so, what are the hash-values? MD5/SHA256

I traced and downloaded that version - not from Roboform though. size on disk: 21,4 MB (22.491.136 bytes) size: 21,4 MB (22.488.888 bytes) Virustotal says it is safe: detection ratio 0/62

before using that version I'd like to know the hash values, should anyone out there still have that file saved somewhere.

I have tried living with the RoboForm icon instead of the toolbar but the response of Roboform is MUCH slower. Sometimes it even hangs for minutes.

I am going to try and remove Firefox 54 and go back to earlier version so I can use full functionality of Roboform.

With a couple hundred passwords but only one browser I prefer the security of passwords to poor function of the browser.

If or when Mozilla decides to make a usable browser in the future I might return but for now Firefox is not an acceptable alternative.

Initially I intended to install an earlier version of Roboform, but after reading about 'crashes' above, I hesitate now.

Generally speaking, i.e. not just for Roboform, I use Firefox because of a couple of add-ons that either are not available for Chrome (like DownThemAll) or aren't working properly, like Youtube video downloaders. Whilst using Chrome, it is not allowed to download videos from Youtube due to 'restrictions'. I believe that this 'flexibility' is one of the main reasons fo most of us to use Firefox.

I wonder though... when switching to WebExtensions they probably will give up a lot of this flexibility: add-ons are broken are working inconveniently, etc. what are then the main reasons for hanging on to Firefox?

This Webextensions thing: it tends more to be like 'If you can't beat them, join them'

I use adblock also with no problems. I have rebooted many times also. Have you tried running a program like malwarebytes.org (free version) and ccleaner to make sure there is nothing nefarious on the computer and to clean up extra junk? Sometimes you have to go back to the beginning and uninstall them both, clean it up and try again. I have had to wipe and reinstall windows to get some things to work properly already.

BE CAREFUL with ccleaner and cleaning the registry. There is always a possibility it could cause a system non response and you will have to format and reinstall (recover from a backup since everyone has those ;) ). I have never had a problem but I don't have a problem with this roboform/firefox setup I am running either....

Make sure to dump all temp files from everywhere in ccleaner also. Reboot after everything is done and see if the roboform/firefox combo works for you.

Thanks. It isn't going to work, BUT.. don't worry, I just got hold of the official 8.3.5.5 version (from Roboform site)

However... I am not sure whether or not to install it (considering the reported crashes.

Also I am at 50/50 considering Chrome with Firefox as backup, for cases where specific add-ons are required.
