Using MF and the "open a new tab" + sign opens a new page with a list of recently visited site which is a very useful tool. It works fine on my two desktops but I can NOT get it to function on laptop.

I downloaded "New Tab Pro" on the laptop (can't even see that on desktops so don't think it is required) as it looked like the real deal but nope.... don't work. running latest version MF, any thoughts on how to enable it please?

You can check the browser.newtab.url pref(s) on the about:config page and reset user set (bold) prefs via the right-click context menu to the default value about:newtab.

If you do not keep changes after a restart or otherwise have problems with preferences, see:

See also this article about the New Tab page (about:newtab):

What appears on a new tab? That could indicate whether an extension is asserting control of that feature. If so, you probably need to remove the extension that is causing the problem; you might not be able to override it with a different extension.

You can also check the browser.newtabpage.enabled pref on the about:config page and reset user set (bold) prefs via the right-click context menu to the default value.

Thanks for that guys; Did about:config page and reset user set (bold) prefs via the right-click context menu to the default value about:newtab.

It now says; browser.newtab.url default - string - about:newtab browser.newtabpage.columns default - string - 3 browser.newtabpage.enabled default - boolean - true

Still a totally blank page:-(

POO !!

Re: you probably need to remove the extension that is causing the problem; you might not be able to override it with a different extension.

Hi Tassiewombat, do you want to paste your list of extensions into a reply? The easiest way to get the list is on the Troubleshooting Information page. Either:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter

In the upper left corner, click the "Copy text to clipboard" button. Then paste into a reply here. You will notice a lot of additional information below the extensions. You can delete from "Important modified settings" down to the end.

HEY..... jsher2000 was just trying that and I opened a new tab and !!!!!!!!

The page icons are showing. Beats me but what the heck.. it works

Further to that: It is definitely caused by browser.newtab.url as it works fine when I change it to: default - string - about:newtab and leave the browser open. BUT when I close and re-open it has reverted to: user set- string

Further again.. After trying above suggestions I gave in and "Reset Firefox to its default state" (in troubleshooting Info) and blow me down it is OK .. visited page icons are now showing on New Tabs  :-)

Thanks guys.. Wait for next question LOL

No more questions from me!

The Reset feature creates a folder on your desktop named Old Firefox Data. I recommend keeping that around for a few weeks in case you discover any priceless items missing from Firefox.
