The MSDN library for the .NET platform often provides examples in .NET languages (VB, C#, C++, F#, JScript) selected by tabs activated by JavaScript. Clicking these tabs does nothing in Firefox 3.6 on many, but not all, Windows 7 systems (64-bit and, I've been told, 32-bit). The tabs work well in recent Internet Explorer and Opera, and JavaScript from other sites works fine in Firefox as it is configured too.

Maybe you have this problem because some of your plugins are outdated or cause bad behavior of Firefox. Maybe reinstalling would help.

Thanks for the suggestions. My plugins should be up-to-date; I check often. Also, the symptoms have been seen on systems with fresh installations, so a Firefox reinstall isn't a likely solution.

No problem here selecting those 5 tabs, with Firefox 3.6.6 on Ubuntu 10.04.

Do you have that problem when running in the Firefox SafeMode? http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode Don't select anything right now, just use "Continue in SafeMode."

If not, see this: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/troubleshooting+extensions+and+theme...

Problem remains with extensions disabled/safe mode active.

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-GB; rv:1.9.2.8) Gecko/20100722 Firefox/3.6.8 ( .NET CLR 3.5.30729)

I agree with Rushyo - Safe Mode without any options (simply "Continue in Safe Mode") did not solve the problem. I next tried Safe Mode with "Reset all user preferences to Firefox defaults." That didn't work either. Next I rebooted and launched Safe Mode. No better.

Then I decided to try Cb_Hr's advice - I reinstalled Firefox. During the uninstall, I removed personal data and customizations, rebooted, and reinstalled Firefox without importing anything. The MSDN language tabs now work fine!

Since that test I've reinstalled all add-ons (all with the same versions as before) and I've implemented all preferences I can remember, and all is still OK. I'm a bit perplexed, though glad to see the problem resolved. I expected that the combination of Safe Mode and resetting of user preferences should have isolated the issue. My only guesses now are that either the update process for Firefox or for one of my add-ons led to a different configuration than a fresh install, or that the resetting of user preferences or use of Safe Mode isolates incompletely. I'm interested in other possibilities... but my issue is no longer urgent. Thanks to all who contributed!

Switching programming languages involves JavaScript code, i haven't digged into it yet.

Quick fix is to clear cookies related to MSDN site.
