The cache can cause problems when something is corrupt or not matching so it is sometimes a useful trouble shooting step to clear it, but even then it may be better to just reload with Ctrl + F5 to override one particular tab. Generally the cache is there to speed things up.

You have many plugins so it may be worth trying temporarily disabling all your plugins, and also running in Firefox's safemode.

Can you give some indication of what you mean by slow and not loading pages properly ? How long does seem to take to load the page for this thread for instance.

Any particular page or types of page you particularly notice issues with, ones with lots of video content for instance.

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.

You can check if there is an update for your graphics display driver and check for hardware acceleration related issues.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support to see if that has effect in case security software is causing problems.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

I did all of the above and finally I ended up uninstalling then reinstalling Firefox.

Worked good for a while and now back where I started.

When I click on a website the wheel goes very slow.

I had my webmaster remove all what was suggested and its just Firefox is not performing.

I wanted to add I use a second monitor for Firefox. My sites are www.starzpsychics.com and my ezine is www.mysticlivingtoday.com

Soooo anything else please let me know.

Thanks so much

Are you only having problems on your own site or on other sites. Is this everywhere or only on some sites, & any patern you can see; such as is it only on sites with FlashPlayer content ?

You say sites do not load properly, what sort of thing goes wrong ? Besides them being slow do they look wrong or not ?

What about our forum doe that load ok and look ok ?

Hiya John,

I did a uninstall then a reinstall . It is all the sites I go to even this one.

What goes wrong well the little wheel goes round and round and then when I finally get to the site my mouse cannot move the page.

Right now I am having difficulty doing what I am typing right now. IE is perfect but Firefox well its not right.

I clear my history and sometimes it works yes but it should be working perfect you would think.

I am at a loss. I have restored to an earlier date on my pc did resets for Firefox three times now.

Help please.......

Ok I hope someone can help here.

I am not enjoying Firefox at the moment at all lol I use this for most of my browsing.

I am thinking as the last resort and I mean last thing I have not done is creating a new profile. When I do a reset it takes me to two that I can choose from and in looking around I see that maybe they are both corrupt.

Now..............how do I do this new profile thingie lol. I mean how do i do this precisely.

Thanks your damsel in distress  :)

Hi again Starzcast, If Firefox is very slow have you looked at the CPU and Memory usage. Look at least initially by using the windows Task Manager (wikipedia.org/wiki/Task_Manager_(Windows)) :

  • Open Task Manager by right-clicking the taskbar, and then clicking Start Task Manager, or keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Shift+Esc .

Did you actually try in Windows Safe Mode, that was suggested in a post above #answer-850039

You should not need to repeatedly Refresh Firefox, but if that works initially then stops working later what is it that you are changing ? Creating new profile is marginally more difficult than doing a Refresh but in many ways more convenient. Use keyboard shortcut Windows-Key + R to get a run dialogue then key in

firefox.exe -P

As explained in

Hiya John,

Thanks again for the reply. I am looking at the CPU & Memory and if I am reading this right.....accessing this forum its using between 5 and 7 CPU and around 125,184 Memory. I checked IE and its actually using more memory.

Anyways I have not tried the Safe Mode. I have some knowledge on things but I will see if I can do what you recommended.

After I do the refresh I am not doing anything extra so not sure what is happening that it works for a bit then back to what was before.

I hate to mess with the profiles myself :)

Thanks, The Damsel in Distress :)

Maybe I can get my webmaster to do the safe mode as that kinda scares this novice over here lol.

Thanks again John

You probably can not do any damage in Windows Safe Mode that you could not do in Windows ordinary mode. Anyhow we will wait for you or your webmaster to try Windows SafeMode to see if that helps.

Hiya John,

Well some good news. I went searching in your forum after printing out how to do Windows & Firefox in safe mode. I paused my Carbonite till after I am not working on pc then I unabled the hardware accerleration and.............I updated Quick Time. It seems its working much better but I still see some things that need updating. I never did Quick Time as I figured oh this is some Apple ITunes thingie lol. I will keep you posted as to what else I uncover.

Thank you,

Your Damsel in Distress :)

Hiya John,

Well I have almost had it with Firefox. I have done everything to this thing and its working just awful. Even my webmaster cannot figure out what is wrong. It seems it acts good after an uninstall reinstall but then by the next day or so................well I am ready to scream. I use two monitors for my websites as you know so its imperative for my work to have FireFox available.

Its slowwwww and sometimes does not connect but after a while. I have paused my Carbonite and done everything. I have no addons go figure. I have tried with and without the acceleration hardware makes no difference.

So I am coming back asking for help.

Thanks,

Damsel in Distress

PS Do I need to do something with the profiles ??? Can someone help me please??  :)

Hi again, If Firefox is using 5 or 7% CPU then that certainly is not a problem. If IE using more memory than Firefox and IE works ok then again that is probably not a problem.

Rather a longshot but do you set Firefox to clear History when it closes ? Set that back to its default setting.

Part of the problem, speaking generally; is we do not really know how bad your experience is, or sometimes whether you have been successful in following instructions.

Do you have the problem with all pages being very slow ? About how long does it take to reload this forum page when you use Ctrl + F5 ?

more options

Hiya John,

Thanks for the reply. I tested the reload and it took 9 seconds.

I just went in and put history back to Never Remember as it was at Remember History.

Maybe that was it all along will let you know. :)

Thanks again,

Starzcast

Mine takes about 3 seconds to reload this page or about 5 using the Ctrl + F5 option.

I do have a reasonable internet connection, and should be able to manage fairly high definition video streaming. 9 seconds is half as fast as mine, but that should not make Firefox unusable.

Remember History is the default setting. It is the clear History setting that has been causing problems in recent Firefox versions. So you should change it back to remember History.

Looking through this thread I note that you said you had looked up how to use Windows safemode, but I do not see anywhere where you said you had actually tried that ? Does Windows Safemode help ? Did you manage to get into Windows safe mode with networking ? and then run Firefox ?

more options

You can check the log in the Web Console for error messages and the Network Monitor (Firefox/Tools > Web Developer) to see how long content takes to load or is possibly blocked.

Use Ctrl+F5 or Ctrl+Shift+R to reload the page and bypass the cache to generate a fresh log.

The link as provided by cor-el is pretty good for explaining how to boot into Windows SafeMode

Note when it says tap F8 repeatedly you will probably find it successful if you try to tap at about twice per second.

more options

You can consider to speed up the page load of the starzpsychics site by changing all links to http://starzpsychics.com/ (i.e. remove the www prefix) to avoid a redirect via the location header for a lot of CSS files. You can see this redirect in the Network Monitor.

Hiya,

Thank you John & cor-el for all the information. I will try all you have suggested. Tomorrow I can do this as today was payroll so could not concentrate.

I will keep you both apprised yessssss.
