What security software do you have?

Make sure that you do not have security software or other software that protect files against changes is causing your issue.

It is possible that there is a problem with the file(s) that store the extensions registry.

Delete the extensions.* files (e.g. extensions.json, extensions.sqlite, extensions.ini) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox profile folder to reset the extensions registry.

If you see disabled or not compatible extensions in "Firefox menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" then click the Tools button at the left end of the Search bar to check if there is a compatibility update available.

If this hasn't helped then also delete the addons.json file.

Note: it's not that I'm unable to install an add-on (same as extension?)... its that once I enable my extension, it becomes "Enabled: false" after reboot and Firefox startup. All extensions are the latest build. Upon startup, all extensions appear in their own tab, each entitled " Install Add-on". I can enable each add-on, one-at-a-time and have them all be enabled for a given Firefox session... but the enabling process is not sticky.

Deleting extensions.* files did not correct this issue. Uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox did not correct.

Within Application Basics file, below, I realize that Norton Toolbar and Adobe Acrobat - Create PDF are not compatible with Firefox V. 41.0.2 . I don't even try to enable these.

There is software like Advanced SystemCare with its Surfing Protection feature that can protect files in the Firefox profile folder against changes. If you have such software then check the settings or uninstall this software.

cor-el, Thank you for the suggestion! Deleting the prefs.js file solved my issue. I lost a few of my settings and had to reinstall and enable 1 Password, but upon computer reboot and Firefox startup, all my previously enabled extensions became sticky and do not need to be re-enabled. This is exactly what I had hoped. You solved my problem. Thank you again!

Did you check for other software on your computer causing this issue?

Yesterday after deleting prefs.js, computer reboot and start of Firefox session I had a successful sticky enabling of all my chosen extensions and wrote that my problem was solved. But this morning upon startup all extensions were disabled in tabs again, forcing me to go through the re-enabling process. Problem not solved.

Is there anything in about:config I might try? The only place that lists my extensions is:

All extensions except the default theme show as disabled ("e":false).

Did you check the settings in your Norton software to make sure it isn't causing this problem?

Does "e":false change to "e":true once you have enabled the extensions?

You can try to make a backup copy of prefs.js when Firefox is running and a second copy when you close Firefox and check of both have "e":true. Check the prefs.js file in the profile folder after a reboot to see if the content hasn't changed and extensions are still enabled.

"e":false DOES change to "e":true once I have enabled the extensions... for a period of time. On bootup extensions revert to disabled. As far as I can tell, Norton is not the problem. It has not cause an issue in the past. My problem seems not to be common, but Norton is common.

Win10 machine does not have this issue with same extensions. Win7 desktop does.

In order to do a completely clean install, I'm not experienced enough to remove ALL traces of Firefox on my computer, including preferences, extensions, deep background files left after uninstalling program. Some files and folders associated with Firefox simply do not delete manually.

This issue began after v.41

Follow these instructions;

• 3 After, reboot the computer. Then run the full installer.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

I don't know what exactly happened to fix my issue, but my extensions have now finally defaulted to a sticky enabled state.

If I was to make a guess, I would say that the order in which I opened each tab to enable each extensions was important. Some of my extensions required a restart of Firefox... others did not. After enabling those extensions that did NOT require a restart, those extensions became sticky enabled. I then enabled one-at-a-time those extensions that required a restart.... after which, those extensions became sticky enabled as well.

Issue resolved, but unsure of why it occurred in the first place, nor the exact reason it resolved. Thanks for the help.
