I collect email from about 5 email accounts on different servers and Thunderbird quite often puts up a message for gmail (see file 1 below) and, whatever I tick, it comes back the next time (once you've managed to get rid of it in the first place). Sometimes, it also does it for other servers (see file 2 below), but is quite happy all other times.

Any working ideas how to stop this? None of the other threads I've followed seem to help. I'm using Avast, but (i) this only happens with some servers and, even then, not always) and (ii) doesn't happne with any other email programmes I use with Avast installed

It seems it was the Avast Mailshield. After reverting to the old display for Avast AV (they don't tell you you CAN do this!), I managed to get the certificate, then had a bit of a struggle getting Thunderbird to actually delete the old one, but managed and installed the new one. So far, so good. Thanks

It is extremely likely that Avast is causing this issue.

Make sure Avast is up to date. Then try manually adding certificate. You may need to remove the stored one first. https://support.avast.com/en-ww/article/Troubleshoot-invalid-email-certificate

Alternatively: Switch off the Avast mail shield https://support.avast.com/en-ww/article/Antivirus-shield-settings

Or accept as security exception.
