When I click on "open link in new tab", after right clicking on a link, FF does not open the link in a new tab. FF does nothing.

For Example, I opened a new window. Went to Craigslist. Did a right click on the 'rooms wanted' link. That brought up the selection list that includes 'open link in new tab'. I clicked on that, but nothing happens. No new tab is opened. The 'open link in new window' command is not working either.

I don't think any of the commands in that drop down list are working. I even tried 'inspect element', and that did nothing.

I just restarted this FF session. What is wrong?

Type in the address bar about:config and press Enter (promise to be careful, if asked)

Type in the search bar browser.tabs.load

Look for the preference browser.tabs.loadInBackground

and set its value to true

Maybe you'd like to change the values of the other two preferences as well (?)

After you've changed a value (or values), close and restart Firefox. please let me know if this method works

Hi njiruclinton56

I Looked at that property, and browser.tabs.loadInBackground was already set to TRUE. (see image below).

Interestingly, now if I click on OPEN LINK IN NEW TAB - it is working! Maybe it was working before, and I missed the true problem.

I have two windows open, and one of the windows is missing the 'scroll indicator symbols' (by which I mean the < and the > symbols). (See picture below). The top window has them, the bottom window does not. So maybe when I initially entered this as a problem opening a tab, it could have been I was at the end of the bottom window, and the tab opened to the right of where I was, and the window just wasn't large enough to show even part of the tab that actually did open?

So I was on the Craigslist page, the last TAB on the far right, of the lower window. I did the OPEN LINK IN NEW TAB. A new tab opened, but you can only see about half of that tab, on the far right side. There is no scroll indicator, no > symbol. I can click on that partial tab.

Also, I have noticed that it sometimes takes FF a long time to switch focus to the clicked on tab - sometimes never switching focus after even half an hour, or longer! But, other tabs switch focus after I click on them in just a second, or two - it's really weird. (I just noticed that it seems to be the TAB that I just opened with the OPEN LINK IN NEW TAB command that does not want to display when I click on the new tab - it's almost as if FF has not 'found' or 'loaded' the new tab yet - and so FF cannot display it! I don't think it is the link issue, and I can open other pages already displayed on the same sites - like Craigslist, or AOL, for example. Other times FF will not open a tab I looked at earlier in the day though, so it is a bit random.).

And my TASK MANAGER does not seem to indicate any resource issue that would cause the tab to take forever and not open (see image below).

OK, so now I have a new issue. When I click on the BOOKMARKS, i see just a few entries. Most of my bookmarks no longer appear. For example, the hundreds of bookmarks I had in the BOOKMARK MENU are gone. I posted a screen capture below of what I now see when I click on BOOKMARKS ...

So, I did an END TASK on FF, and now my bookmarks appear to all be displayed again. (See image below).

Any idea why I am having these strange problems?
