on my PC when I try to open Firefox I get a window: Firefox.exe entry point not found the procedure entry point SSL_GetPreliminaryChannelinfo could not be located in dynamiclink library nss3.dll When I click on that window it closes and I get a second window: couldn'tload XPCOM I tried to send this info but it doesn't fit in the sentence box, even shortened it does not send when I click Ask This I cannot open Firefox on my PC running Windows 7 Home Premium. I cannot open web links from email. I used Bing to open the Firefox web site but could not send the question after completing the sentence. I am using Firefox on my Mac to communicate the problem. The troubleshooting data below appears to relate to the Mac not the PC. I can't access such information on the PC although the window appears basically the same and I have tried multiple ways to send it from the PC.

Thanks for your help.

When I received the link email, I got the same windows stating Firefox.exe entry point not found the procedure entry point SSL_GetPreliminaryChannelinfo could not be located in dynamiclink library nss3.dll and a second window - Could not load XPCOM I could not send the reply. After I logged in to this site on the PC I was able to access the information loaded via my Mac

The error message about XPCOM missing usually happens because of a failed Firefox update that left you with a mixture of old and updated files in the Firefox program folder. This can happen in case security software was keeping a handle of some of the files in the Firefox program folder preventing Firefox from replacing all the files. You can do a clean reinstall to ensure that all files are replaced.

Do a clean reinstall of the current Firefox release and delete the Firefox program folder before installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.

If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows Registry and settings in security software.

  • do NOT remove "personal data" when you uninstall the current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

  • (32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
  • (64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"

Your personal data like bookmarks is stored in the Firefox profile folder, so you won't lose personal data when you uninstall and reinstall or update Firefox, but make sure NOT to remove personal data when you uninstall Firefox as that will remove all Firefox profile folders and you lose your personal data.
