I do know that this was a bug for Metro right before they stopped developing. It may be possible to pin websites.

Swipe on the right and click on the Start for Windows 8 . On the bottom you need to click on All apps. Right click on Firefox and select "Pin to start. " There you go.

You may have to make your homepage the earthlink mail, there might also be another way to do this.
