On closing, FF leaves a white pane, stationary, on the left side of my desktop. What's the fix?

When I exit FF, I'm stuck w/a vertical white bar on my desktop that I can't close, eliminate, or manipulate in any way. The bar is as "tall" as my FF window's normal setting, and about an inch wide. This has been happening for several weeks, though I haven't changed any of my FF settings. The vertical white bar remains whether I close out FF by clicking on the red "x" or by using File/Exit.

Is the bar drawn (or not painted back in, as the case may be) if all Firefox windows are minimized, and you close by right-clicking the task bar button and Close All Windows?

Any weird display artifact problems make me think "hardware graphics acceleration." If you haven't already tried disabling it, you can do that as follows.

You usually need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced

On the "General" mini-tab, uncheck the box for "Use hardware acceleration when available"

If you restart Firefox, is the issue resolved (or at least improved)?
