Can send email but cannot receive, happened after PC crash
I can send email but cannot receive email. Thunderbird 17.0., running on an XP PC. This is a fully functioning system. I believe it stopped receiving email after my PC locked up after I inserted a USB device, with Thunderbird open.
I can receive email from a wireless laptop running on the same network/router from the same 3 email addresses as on the PC. I was able to send an email from the PC, and receive it on the laptop. No one else on the network has problems, seems isolated to the one PC.
Message at bottom of screen just says "Connect to ...". Tried running in Thunderbird Safe mode. Tried to compact folders. Tried deleting all passwords. Never even got prompted to enter a new password. Checked email server configurations.
Error Console does bring up some strange messages right after I try to get email:
Timestamp: 1/16/18 1:15:41 PM Warning: Use of Mutation Events is deprecated. Use MutationObserver instead. Source File: chrome://messenger/content/msgMail3PaneWindow.js
Timestamp: 1/16/18 1:15:41 PM Error: Please do not load stuff in the multimessage browser directly, use the SummaryFrameManager instead. Source File: resource:///modules/summaryFrameManager.js Line: 85 Line: 944

Solved the problem. Thunderbird was out of date. I updated to the latest version, now it works.

Tried without the anti virus? I principal cause of mail problems. Tried checking the firewall for a blockage?
No anti-virus. No changes at all were made to the computer. The only event is the computer freeze-up after I inserted a USB device. I can still receive email from another computer on the same network with the same email setup. I highly suspect that something got corrupted. I just don't know what or where to look.
Update: I discovered that if I change "Security Settings" to "None" / "Password transmitted insecurely" from "SSL/TLS" / "Normal password" I can receive emails. The problem seems to be related to security settings.
From another computer on the same network, with the same setup, I can read emails using "SSL/TLS". I literaly moved the cable from one computer to the other to eliminate all network related variables.
