None of the zoom functions address this problem.

It is not that all the text is too large or too small, but that the headings in relation to the text are now too big. This means that if I decrease the zoom level to one that the headings appear normal then the text is articles is too small. This is a consistent problem across for instance news papers sites such as the Guardian (UK) but even on the standard google search page. ie if I reduce the search box text size to the level I normally have, then the text of the search results are far too small. And even on the wordpress sites that I maintain I have this problem. The headings and sub headings now appear too large in relation to the text size.

So not only is this a problem for using other sites, but means I no longer have confidence in using Firefox when setting up styles etc..

Any ideas as to what the problem might be?

Hello,

Firefox on Windows is now following display scaling options which may render text larger on high resolution displays. There's more than one way to resolve this problem. See the Webpages are large and blurry after updating Firefox - how to fix article for one suggestion. Here's another possible solution:

  • Type about:config into the Firefox address bar and tap on the Enter key.
  • If the warning This might void your warranty appears, click I'll be careful, I promise.
  • Search for layout.css.devPixelsPerPx

Fx22layout.css.devPixelsPerPx

  • Double-click on layout.css.devPixelsPerPx to modify its value. The default is -1.0 in Firefox 22 and above. Change it to 1.0 to make it work like in previous Firefox versions.

If necessary, further adjust the value in 0.1 or 0.05 steps. Use values between 1.0 and about 0.5 to reduce elements in size. Use values greater than 1.0 to increase size. For example, a value of 1.25 will increase font size to 125% to accommodate the default DPI setting in Windows 8. Double check the value that you enter. Setting a too small value will make everything disappear and a too large value will blow things up.

If web pages still need to be adjusted then you can look at the Default FullZoom Level or NoSquint extension.

To adjust the font size for the user interface, you can use the Theme Font & Size Changer extension.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

Sorry - what is the point of using a browsing that renders the vast majority of websites in a distorted fashion?!!

I would accept that if it was just my little wordpress blog that looked a bit strange, but you seriouslly cant suggest that if I want to go on using firefox as my default browser and continue my volunteer work of monitoring news websites which display correctly in other browsers that I should adjust my settings in Firefox.

If I did that I would than have no confidence whatsoever when editing style sheets in using firefox to test pages.

This is a major problem!!!!

Do you see how this is an issue.

Would hate to have to return to IE ...

Yes you should adjust your settings. Basically Firefox was not properly adjusting to HIDPI scaling before, causing text to look smaller on HIDPI screens. We have now fixed this so Firefox respects Window's DPI Settings, causing some text to look larger. This is a simple, one time fix that will let you use Firefox like it was before, and at the same time fixing a major bug in how Firefox worked on windows

Yes, agreed. I just found out tonight that one of our web sites that renders just fine on both Chrome and Internet Explorer, is a distorted mess on FireFox after this latest update. What is Mozilla going to do to fix this? You can see for yourself here; http://fhlinternational.info Try it in those other browsers first and then look at what FireFox is doing. Its rendering the center container sections clear to the left.

Thanks for addressing this promptly.

wouldn't it make more sense to offer 2 versions of the browser. One for those using high resolution displays and one for those that dont.

Most ordinary users will accept an automatic update and then not know what to do.
