firefox update (19.0) keeps crashing when I open anything new or try to refresh. VERY IRRITATING!!!
I updated firefox as was "suggested." I was happy and had NO PROBLEMS with the older version. now whenever I try to open a new tab, a new page, or refresh an old page, this version crashes. REPEATEDLY. It is very frustrating and irritating. I do not like IE and do not want to change over to it, but if your "upgrade" keeps crashing, I don't really have any other alternative.
It also opens 2 tabs when I click on a news story. it crashes when i control c or control v. it crashes when i back space.
I bet I've already sent 30 crash reports since I updated. What the F... are you doing with them???
PLEASE FIX THIS UPDATED VERSION (19.0). At the current time, it is a piece of crap!!

I did all the suggested "remedies" too. Nothing worked. So I went to my external HD back up to copy and reinstall the old version back on to my computer HD. All of the problems stopped -- immediately! I won't be updating again.

Hi kathydu, could you copy some of the crash IDs from the following tab and post them in a reply here?
about:crashes
Also, in case it is a problem of an incompatible add-on, could you try Firefox's Safe Mode.
First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
Next, restart Firefox in Firefox's Safe Mode (Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode) using
Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode."
If you can now browse normally, this points to one of your extensions or custom settings as the problem. If no change, hmmm...
Also, could you disable ALL your plugins except Flash. I don't recognize most of them and those that I do are not essential for most sites.
You can do that here:
orange Firefox button or classic Tools menu > Add-ons > Plugins category
A couple of other users are reporting problems with Firefox 19 on Windows 8.
If you want to try reinstalling Firefox 18.0.2, the installer is still up on this site at the moment:
http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/18.0.2/win32/en-US/
You can adjust your automatic update preferences to ask you before downloading.
orange Firefox button or classic Tools menu > Options > Advanced > Update
I had backed up my computer on my external hard drive. None of your links or anything else you sent worked. So I copied my "old" Firefox file back onto my computer hard drive, and, voila! Everything works the way it should again. I will not update again. Too much frustration, etc.
But thanks for trying to help me.
I'm with you kathydu! 19 messed up what had been a good experience with 18.0.2. I changed back, but then someone said "resetting FF 19 would make all the bad stuff go away", so I re-updated, did the reset, and of course, it improved nothing. So, now I'm back to 18, and really, really wish Mozilla, Apple, & Google would TEST THOROUGHLY all new "updates" BEFORE they release them to the public!! I am so very tired of discovering the new is far worse than the old......

There was a problem with Firefox 19 on Windows 8 when the system had certain graphics card drivers. There might not be enough Windows 8 users testing pre-release versions of Firefox, otherwise this would have been picked up much earlier.
Well, I'm on a Mac, so it isn't only about certain graphics cards on Windows 8...
Hi StevenCee, has anyone taken a look at your crash IDs to see whether they have the same signature? You can copy the crash IDs from this page:
about:crashes
and then post some of them here.
From what page? "about:crashes" is a page?
Hi Steven,
From what page? "about:crashes" is a page?
Yes in a similar fashion to the page about add-ons that may be accessed from the menu or by keying in about:addons key in about:crashes as explained in
- Troubleshoot Firefox crashes (closing or quitting unexpectedly)
- see also Find and install add-ons to add features to Firefox
Use Tools -> Addons (Equivalent to about:addons )
also note there is an about:about
Just type it straight into the location bar of Firefox and hit the return key or click the arrow at the end of the bar.

If you have submitted crash reports then please post the IDs of one or more crash reports that have this format:
- bp-xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx
You can find the IDs of the submitted crash reports on the about:crashes page.
- You can open the about:crashes page via the location bar, like you open a website.
See:
It may also be worth noting that the Beta channel provides Firefox 20 and it has been confirmed that does not crash because of this problem.
The Beta version is secure. It is relatively straightforward if necessary to revert back to the release channel, so there is always a secure downgrade option, and the downgrade is almost certain to work, as once you have been in beta for over 6 weeks you will have already used that version without problems.
The more users who use the Beta channel, the more problems will be picked up and fixed before they even get to the release channel.
Ok, here's the ID's of three (there have been more recent ones, but these are the most current of the reports listed:

You do not have the problem described in this thread, I will try to look more closely.
This thread probably discusses more than one problem, you are probably best starting a new thread by asking your own question using /questions/new
Personally I do not see an immediate cause for your crash, It is not yet a crash signature that has any linked bug reports.
An obvious thing to do is to try in Firefox's safe mode.
- see Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode
- Have you read
Also the crash reports show you are using Firefox 18 so upgrade to Firefox 19 . I notice other crashes with this signature on Firefox 18 but not on fx19 so it may be resolved if you update.
Post back here once you have started a new thread so others may find it.
For forum cross referencing purposes

Well, for some reason none of the crash reports listed are any more recent than 2/14, despite many newer crashes, including FOUR already today! And I did upgrade, it was still screwing up, then tried another 18, and now I'm back to 19, and it's frozen up twice in just the past couple hours, yet none are showing up in the crash list. Maybe I'll just try the Beta 20, it sure can't be any worse than the mess these have been.
What's frustrating, is that right before I upgraded the first time to 19, I was so happy because it was finally working without freezes, spinning balls, etc....now I'm right back to wanting to forget about FF entirely...
You really would do better starting a new thread. This thread is marked solved and initially related to Windows 8 crashes on AMD machines running Firefox 19.
You also did not say whether you have tried SafeMode.
I know, but the search function on this forum would not let me narrow things down to both the FF version & Mac OS, which in itself is quite frustrating (in fact it wouldn't even let me search using FIrefox 19, I had to put 19.0 before it would, again, frustrating & a bit absurd), and I don't really have all this time to spend, trying all these different procedures, just to get a decent working browser.
I am not suggesting you post in an existing thread for Fx19 & Mac, I am suggesting you start your own thread.
With any luck if you then provide recent Crash IDs someone will workout what the problem is.
I have Win7 and I've been hit with this constantly for days. When it first started my browser somehow had fullscreen mode enabled, not that I ever used or heard of it before. The combination was literally unusable.
Now with fullscreen off this crashing every hour or so is just very annoying. (NOT a Win8 thing.)
