My Firefox just updated to 6.0.2, and required the latest Adobe Flash Player; however the Flash installation came with a download of Google Chrome, which I do not want and stopped its install after Flash installed successfully.

Basically, I just want to know if this will have any effect on my Firefox, and if this will occur each time I update the Flash player, because I DON'T want Chrome! I want AND prefer Firefox!

Nope, that shouldn't affect Firefox. But you need to read everything that is put in front of you when you go to download updates for anything except Firefox these days, as you have found out Adobe "offers" Google Chrome as a pre-selected "option" and I caught Oracle trying to install the Yahoo toolbar with their update last year.

Update All your Firefox Plugins

Adobe Flash Player 10.3.183.7 (2.94 MB)

=> When Downloading Plugins Update setup files, Remove Checkmark from Downloading other Optional Softwares with your Plugins (e.g. Toolbars, McAfee, Google Chrome, etc.)

Check and tell if its working.

Unfortunately I was never GIVEN the option to un-check Google Chrome, it just started doing it. Nor did I ever see the security question Step #3 of the helpful steps Firefox provided when I elected to upgrade the Flash Player; the thing went straight to the download screen for the Player and Chrome. I can't very well opt out of something when I'm not given the option to do so...

Uninstall Google Chrome from Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs

IF you are not satisfied with the Windows Add/Remove Programs Uninstaller, you can use some other Uninstaller softwares like Revo Uninstaller (Free version or PRO version), IObit Uninstaller etc, to Completely Remove Google Chrome.

Revo Uninstaller

IObit Uninstaller 2 Freeware

Use these software to Uninstall Google Chrome, Scan for leftover files after the Uninstallation and then Delete all leftover files identified as associated files.

Check and tell if its working.

Thank you for answering. I started the process of Add/Remove, but Google Chrome is not listed in the Add/Remove list. Would that mean that it never fully installed, making this entire thread a moot point?

PS -- love the Aragorn avatar, if that's who it is! I'm a Legolas fan myself...

Check in Program Files folder if a folder named Google Chrome is listed..

  • IF it is listed in the Program Files folder then you will need to use Forced Uninstall feature of the above mentioned Uninstaller Softwares.
  • IF it is not listed in the Program Files folder then try searching for Google Chrome in Windows directory (C:\ drive) and Delete all the Google Chrome folders found in the search.

Check and tell if its working.

PS - I always picked Legolas in Lord of the Rings PS2 game :-D

My search for Google Chrome found absolutely nothing. If that be the case, then does that mean the thing never downloaded and this thread is now finished?

Maybe 98%. Since i cannot access your computer and check your files i cannot say for sure :-P

Lastly, make sure that you are using the latest version of Flash by using the links mentioned in my 1st reply.

Everything but the QuickTime (which I never use...) is up to date. If I need the QuickTime, I'll update it, but I never really use it as my classes all use YouTube. If the thing hasn't shown and I get no requests to finish the download, then I'll not worry about it, and when Flash needs to update, I'll try to get just the Flash and nothing else...
