Error Message: 'Firefox has stopped working'; I have Windows 7 and Norton Antivirus software
Hi All,
I have an issue with a computer that I believe is being caused by Norton Antivirus software.
I use Mozilla Firefox as a web browsers. This is currently not working and is giving the message 'Firefox has stopped working' then 'Check online for a solution and close the program' etc etc
My operating software is Windows 7.
I also have Norton Antivirus software.
I believe the issue may rest with Norton software is because when I do a system restore, the problem stops until Norton does a 'fix' (which seems to be on internet browser files).
Has anyone experienced this problem and how do I fix it?
Thanks
Jamie

Please consider turning on send info to Mozilla before posting a question. This helps us help you. As I have no info from your system that would help see things that cause issues.
I run Norton Security and have no issues at all. Also former Beta Tester. The Password Manager, Norton Toolbar and Norton Search are not compatible with version 57 Quantum. They are marked as Legacy in your Extension/addons or are removed already or have been replaced with a compatible version.
I suggest you open Norton Security and click Security then LiveUpdate. followed by going to the top right corner of Norton Security Main Page and clicking on Help. Then click on New Version Check.
If at any time you run into something that says Apply Patch, do so. Once patch has been applied Run LiveUpdate again. Sometimes have to do that several times.
Since no information came about your system or Firefox version. I suggest that you update your video drivers.
Then Please uninstall Firefox. Then Delete the Mozilla Firefox Folders in C:\Program Files and C:\Program Files(x86) Then restart system. Then run Windows Disk Cleanup. Then run it again and click the button that says Cleanup System Files. Note: your Firefox Profile is saved.
Install Firefox 56.0.2 is it is the current release https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ Full Version Installer
See how things run after another reboot.
Note : Firefox 57 Quantum release date Nov 14th https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/quantum/ Note : Legacy Extensions will be disabled and or removed.
Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.
Hi There,
Many thanks for your response.
The problem is with my parents computer, not with mine. I'm currently asking this question using my own computer.
I'm searching for answers so I can visit my parents and try to solve the issue.
Another previous problem we encountered was with Firefox V54. There was an error message (it wouldn't open) so I tried to uninstall V54 and then it wouldn't uninstall. I had to install V56 with V54 still on the computer. How do we clear Firefox V54 files from the computer if the uninstall function doesn't appear to be working with V54?

I'm having the same problem, I won't flood the forum with more new topics. Firefox v56. Windows 7 home premium 64bit. I experienced this randomly, no pattern to what I was doing, could be on any site and it would randomly happen. Here's what's interesting. I found that if I opened Firefox and did nothing else, simply left it open on a blank page, after a few minutes it would crash, the 'Firefox has stopped working' box would appear. I have installed v53.0.3 , although it doesn't crash, when I'm on facebook the page slows down to a crawl, there are stutters, delays and hangs (white transparent overlay and spinning wheel) which it does eventually recover from. When I look in task manager Firefox 53.0.3 is using almost a gigabyte of memory, sometimes more and even when only one page is open. I long for the day the internet works properly. In all my years of being online there's always something broken and unfinished. Why can't someone simply make a browser that works. B.t.w. I have tried everything above and more. Uninstalling / reinstalling - refreshing it. - always back up bookmarks if doing that! fortunately I did. it was 56.0.2 yes it crashes no matter what I tried. I gave up on it.

Ah, I've noticed 57 Quantum is out. I'll wait and see how that works for other people before I install it though I think.
