Firefox does not recognize the last java update and some videos cannot be played and some sites do not load. What to do?

After the last update of Java, whenever checking addons, the report that is given is that the plugins "Java Deployment Toolkit 7.0550.13" and "Java(TM) Platform SE 7 U55" are outdated. Some videosites don´t load at all and some videos simply are not played. Any ideas of what goes on? (BTW, have already checked if the sites are down and no, they are not down).

In a surprising turn, the problem dissapeared alone this morning without even trying to address the issue.

There is a disclaimer on the plugin checker site at the moment explaining that the Java information is inaccurate. The problem is that the site was updated to recognize the new Java 8 as the current version, but Oracle is only recommending that for developers. For everyone else, Oracle is recommending the version you have. But there is some problem rolling back the plugin check site to that version.

Now... regarding videos:

(I'm not aware of any video sites that use Java, so the issue with Java probably isn't relevant to the video problem.)

Does this occur on all sites, or only under certain conditions, such as Youtube videos embedded in blogs, etc.?

In case one of your extensions is involved, could you test the page in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using

Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled (Flash and other plugins still run)

In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset)

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:

You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the cache and cookies only from websites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.
