Whoever said that computers will make your life easier, must hear a rattle when he shakes his head, eh  ?

Aww, you went through all the trouble listing all the items you see when you click on the 3-bar menu ....

Now, you see listed there : 'Options' - would you please click on that  ?

On the left side you will see :

General Search Privacy & Security Firefox Account

Would you now please click on 'Privacy & Security' and then (once more) read the article :

How to clear the Firefox cache

Bingo  ?

(keeping my fingers crossed ..... )

What toolbars do you see?

Open the Customize window and set what toolbars (Show/Hide Toolbars) and toolbar items to display.

  • Right-click empty toolbar area -> Customize
  • "3-bar" menu button -> Customize
  • View -> Toolbars
*you can tap the Alt key or press the F10 key to show the hidden Menu Bar temporarily

Type about:preferences<enter> in the address bar.

I cannot find either of the things both of you mention. On customise. I have nothing that resembles what you mention. I have tried all of them and none of them mentions a menu of any kind.

And no where can I find anything about emptying my cache.

Thanks for trying. This is most up to date Firefox that they download.

I would like the old firefox. I am nearly 80. These updates that are supposed to make things easier for people, are a nightmare for me. Menu is something that is basic. Thanks for trying. :)

This is me replying to my own request. How can something like a menu for everything be so difficult to find.

I cant even find the menu let alone the cache and cookies.

This is all that comes up on my Customize window.

I am still using v54 as my primary. Too many add-ons were lost with the current Firefox.

No orange button

The orange button was removed from Firefox several versions ago. But an add-on restored it to those that wanted it. But like many others, that add-on is not compatible with the current Firefox.

Hi Goinginsane

What you describe looks to me that you are on the about:newtab page.

Do you see any toolbars? The Navigation Toolbar should have a "3-bar" Firefox menu button

  • the "3-bar" Firefox menu button (New Fx Menu) is positioned at the right end of the Navigation Toolbar.

Can you post a screenshot that shows the Firefox user interface with the toolbars?

Hi Goinginsane,

If you do see the 3-bar menu button, as described by cor-el, then this article will explain how to clear the cache :

Thanks for the help, only problem is I either do not have that 3 dash option or cannot find it.

The worst thing so far is that it is not possible to download and any old issues of firefox, so I appreciate also the person who suggested I do that.

Would love to do that - thanks for all of you trying to help.

Well I took a screenie, but cant seem to get it to come up here.

I have been through that 3 bar thing, just didnt realise what it was.

When I open it, what is it that I am looking for to empty the cache.

Ive tried them all and the nearest is history, and that has nothing about a cache.

The only thing that I thought must help was the history tab, but it doesnt seem to go anywhere. I just cant understand all the different replies.

Cor - el this does sound hopeful. When I answered the last person, I was on google chrome, which works so easily. Why on earth am I spending all this time trying to find out how to work something that is is complicated.

I do appreciate the help. But I am just so confused with all these things. Menu is so basic. And truth to tell all the new words that describe things - I just dont know what they mean even. Inter face - what is that?

'I am too old for all this shit' (is a humurous quote from a favourite movie of mine)

Thank you guys all so much. I guess my machine will just get slower and slower.

Under History that would be "Clear Recent History"

You can also find clearing the cache under the Options (Preferences) (about:preferences).

"Clear the cache:

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security -> Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove the cookies" from websites that cause problems.

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security -> "Use custom settings for history" -> Cookies: "Show Cookies"
  • clearing "Site Preferences" clears exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, and software installation and exception for password and other website specific data
  • clearing "Cookies" will remove all selected cookies including cookies with an "Allow" exception you may want to keep

You are being so kind and helpful. Here is the list under the 3 bars on my computer from top to bottom

sign in to sync

new window new private window restore previous session

zoom

edit

library add ons options customize

open file save page as print

find in this page more web developer help

exit

Under Library which a sign like a bookcase with 4 books is history

following your link again I get the same result. No where does it mention the word cache. I have no idea what it is referring to.

Are you saying it just means delete the history. I only a few items on it.

Is this what the cache is...... just the history?

No where does it even mention the word cache. As I said if this is what is meant no wonder I couldnt find it.

If this is the right place. If you could just say yes, I would be very obliged.

Thank you.

Under History when opened view history clear history

then an option of time choices to view or clear history. recently closed tabs recently closed windows

that is all I can see.

A cache is basically a storeroom full of data that websites send to the browser. Sometimes this information is outdated or corrupt and needs to be cleaned out.

more options

Oh OH OH. woo hoo. So simple.

So clear, so easy. I thank you. It is the only place there is anything that actually mentions and clears the cache.

IT WORKED. YOU ARE A GENIUS.

Thank you to everyone who tried. I really do appreciate all the time and trouble you have taken to help an old lady.

Who would ever have thought of looking there? Haha.

Blessings to all. Jennifer.

Nomore going insane and nomore pulling your hair out  !

And another thing : nomore of that "I'm too old" : It may be a cliche, but age is nothing but a number, and doesn't say a thing about a person's character and intelligence ..... From what we've seen of your character and IQ : they're both perfect  !

Note that you can make the Menu Bar visible permanently via the right-click context menu of a toolbar or via "Customize -> Show/Hide Toolbars" to have the menu bar with the File and Edit and Bookmarks and History and Tools menus.

Amen sista, (or bro) as the case may be. Thank you kindly.

I just hope that they save the solved answers so that the next person is able to access it quickly.

It was so simple in the days when there was a menu bar.

Cor-el thanks to you also for all the help - that is most kind of you and also to everyone who came to the aid of the sinking ship.
