When I visit certain web pages, Firefox crashes systematically, e.g. http://arrayfire.com/

Starting it from console, I get this error at the time of the crash:

      • stack smashing detected ***: /usr/lib/firefox/firefox terminated

Here there is one of the crash reports: https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/1fa73a7c-20e3-49c6-ac31-cbaa92141211

Running Firefox 34.0 on Ubuntu 14.10 64-bit.

Any clue how to fix this? I have already tried re-setting and re-installing the browser, starting it with all add-ons disabled and disabling all plug-ins.

Thanks!

Looks like a problem with GStreamer.

You can check if there is an update for GStreamer.

Otherwise you can try to disable GStreamer fort the HTML5 media player.

  • on the about:config page: media.gstreamer.enabled = false

Thank you cor-el. I have disabled GStreamer as per your instructions, and the crash didn't happen anymore.

Also, I have tried building Firefox on my system starting from its source code (version 34.0), and that build didn't reproduce the issue (leaving GStreamer enabled).
