Hi Bill,

With Firefox 10 most add-ons are compatible, making the check unnecessary in many cases. I'm not sure if this can help you, but this is how to fix Firefox says it's just updated every time it starts - how to fix

Do you have the BitDefender toolbar in Firefox? Especially its version 2.0? Because this kind of issue may be related to BD Toolbar. If yes, remove it from your computer or upgrade BD.

Hi Oxylatium, no I don't have a bit defender toolbar, just the latest version of Roboform, that's all

Which security software (firewall, anti-virus) do you have?

Some have virtualization features that can cause problems by protecting and restoring files in the Firefox profile folder.

sorry for late reply, was abducted by aliens I managed to escape and back now. I use Online Armor firewall and Emsisoft anti virus, Ive recently upgraded this amazing software as they brought out a newer version, this could be the problem as now I think about it my Firefox problem was around the same time. I will check out the Emsisoft community forums, hope that brings some answers but in the meantime thanks to everyone that has taken the trouble to help
