I am trying to download a file from a website. The file is cricutdesignspace-install-v7.12.153.exe The problem is it will only download as cricutdesignspace-install-v7.12.153 it isn't getting that it is an executable file. Microsoft Edge was able to download the exact file without issue.

Some other users have reported the same problem on various sites, but not everyone is affected, which suggests that some settings might also be a factor. If the Cricut installer is on a public page (no payment or login required), some forum volunteers could test it out. You can insert a space into the address (just before the .com) to bypass the spam moderation queue -- for example:

https://www.example .com/

For some previously reported instances of this, a fix is expected in Firefox 103, which is scheduled to release on July 26th. Between now and then, you might want to turn on the feature to let you edit file names before saving. On the Settings page, Downloads section, check the box for "Always ask you where to save files". Firefox should show a Windows file browser to select the folder AND allow editing the file name before saving.

It may also be helpful to set Windows not to hide any file extensions. This third party article has the steps for that: https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/how-to-show-file-extensions-in-windows/

I found the file. It downloads as application/x-msdos-program. Follow jscher's advice. Save file as All Files and add .exe at the end of the file name.
