Ebay sellers seem to have two options when posting images to their auction listings. The first results in a large image above thumbnails and one mouses over the large image to see a magnified small area. One can also click the large image to go to a new page with a slide show of all the extra large images. All these mouse over auctions work just fine in Firefox, Chrome, and IE 11.

The second option produces the same large image and thumbnails, but there is no mouse over effect. Instead, below the large image it says to "click for a larger image". These auctions do not work in my Firefox. Clicking never brings up the slide show page of xtra large images. Also, the message below the large image about clicking to enlarge is absent (see screen shot).(Sorry, there is no screen shot because neither png or jpg versions upload. The pinwheel just keeps spinning.) Here is the link to the auction shown.

These auctions do NOT work with Google Chrome either. However, they do with IE 11.

I sent the above auction link to a friend and the click to enlarge feature worked as it should in their version of Firefox. Therefore, I presume there is some problem with my settings. What box do I have to check to get these auctions to work with my Firefox (and maybe Chrome too? )  ? I've had this problem for at least a couple of years and used IE 11 to overcome it, but now I wish to dump IE and need an alternative to completely see these auctions. Thanks for your help.

I tested it in my browser and it worked as expected.

Can you please try Firefox in safe mode? Safe mode is a diagnostic mode that will disable addons and reset some settings. We can use this to determine if the issue is caused by an addon or bad setting.

For more information about using safe mode, please refer to these Mozilla support articles:

Personally, I believe that the issue is caused by the NoScript addon that you have installed on Firefox. This addon is designed to disable certain scripts, some of which may be required to view this slideshow.

If the issue does not occur in safe mode, please try permanently disabling that addon or adding eBay to the whitelist to allow scripts on eBay.

The problem still occurred in safe mode. The noscript was added two weeks ago, but the problem has been going on for a few years. I see in the safe mode explanations that there are referrals to articles dealing with java, flash, plugins that cause image loading problems. I have to get off the computer now, so cannot read these and will have to check this out tomorrow.

By the way, any thoughts on why I could not upload the screen shot to the forum? Paul

What security software do you have?

There is an event handler attached to the image that open a lightbox with the images.

If this isn't working then this usually means that some JavaScript is blocked. You can check via the right-click context menu in the Inspector if there is an 'ev' button present next to the image.

If Firefox isn't blocking this JavaScript then your security software might be blocking it.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) to see if that helps.

I have Zonealarm and Avast. Firefox extensions shows that Avast Online Security is Disabled. Using the Inspector, yes, there is a black EV box after the highlighted code for the large ebay image. Among my plugins are: shockwave always adk Java Deployment Toolkit ask Java platform SE 8 U 66 ask silverlight ask I tried setting the Java platform plugin to always activate. Restarted Firefox and the ebay page, but still no text or access to the xtra large image slide show. Since Chrome has the same image problem, I looked to see whether there is a common plugin that might be affecting both. My Chrome has only four plugins, all disabled. The only common one is shockwave. I enable shockwave in Chrome, restarted the browser and reloaded the auction page, but the images still weren't accessible. Screen shot seems to have uploaded today. ( note no text below large image). Maybe it's my lucky day!
