Pinterest offers two solutions for Firefox users. One is an add-on button, and the other is a "bookmarket."
What's the difference?
- Add-on (extension): This creates a graphical "P" button that you can place on your main Navigation toolbar. The add-on is running all the time, and may have more advanced features.
- Bookmarklet: This creates a text button on your Bookmarks Toolbar. It doesn't do anything until you click it, at which point is adds a script into the page you're viewing.
Note: if you do not generally display your Bookmarks Toolbar, then the bookmarklet might not be convenient for you. You can show that bar using either:
- View menu > Toolbars
- right-click a blank area of the tab bar (or the "+" button)
What do you think?
To grab either of the Pinterest buttons, go to this page: http://about.pinterest.com/goodies/#browser
There is a small link to switch between the add-on and the bookmarklet.
Any luck?
thanks for the suggestion..... but it doesnt solve the problem of trying to pin something right from facebook.
i have the P icon and it works fine from the web etc.. but not FB. apparently chrome browser does, but i really dont want to run chrome...
Hi firefrown, where are you in Facebook when you have this problem -- news feed? viewing a photo in the theater display (dark background)? another page? I'll take a look and see whether I can figure something out.
I have tried it from newsfeed (photo) and from gallery view (photo)- with no luck
it does work if the FB topic opens to an external website, that can be pinned....
Are you getting a little alert dialog saying you can't pin directly from Facebook? (screen shot attached) That's part of the script and it lists several different sites you cannot pin from. The only workaround I see is to view the image on its own, since those are on fbcdn.net and not on facebook.com.
