Win 7 Home Deluxe, FF 18.0.2 - IE 9, Motorola SBG900 wireless modem located in FL winter home.
Both my laptop and my wife's laptop, on the same wireless network, have this problem with both FF and IE. I took my laptop to the newspaper, logged on to their wi-fi and the sites snapped open. I took my laptop to our community center and once again the sites loaded quickly and normally. Also I can read the newspaper by using Bing translate to load each page. To my mind this indicates that the problem lies with the modem but Motorola support states that there's no way a particular site could be blocked by the modem settings.
BTW, using my Motorola SBG901 wireless modem in my NH home the sites loaded normally.
I'm stumped. Can you help?

I am able to load the sites fine. Have you tried another browser? Have you tried clearing cache and cookies?
The problem exists only inside my FL home, when using either Firefox or Internet Explorer, and affects both my and my wife's laptops using our home wireless network. Cleared cache and cookies and flushed DNS. No help. Also pinged the newspaper's server and four packets were sent, four returned and none lost.
Process of elimination would exclude my laptop and its network settings as the cause of the problem because, like you, I am able to load the sites instantly using public wi-fi outside my home.
I am not comfortable altering settings on my modems but have noted that on the FL SBG900 I'm using WEP security and on the NH SBG901 I'm using WPA-Personal. Is there a clue in that difference?
You noted that this issue persists with only your modem and with other browsers as well. We are unable to provide supporting at this point in time as it is out of our reach. One thing you can do it try rebooting your modem.
If by rebooting the modem you mean unpowering it for at least 60 seconds it didn't help. Thanks for your interest and help. Irish
It is possible that the site block your IP for some reason.
You can try if you can access the site via Google Translate with a random source language like 'fr'
"It is possible that the site block your IP for some reason." Unlikely since I receive the site outside my home.
"You can try if you can access the site via Google Translate with a random source language like 'fr'" As I said above, I can read the newspaper, one page at a time, using Bing Translate.
