Hello!

I'm currently using Firefox nightly for Android, simply for the reason of installing custom add-ons, rather than having to choose from the given list.

I've followed this guide so far: [https://www.ghacks.net/2020/10/01/you-can-now-install-any-add-on-in-fi...]

And I've added the 3 extensions I need at, by signing in with this very Firefox account: [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fire.../collections/]

My problem is when I attempt to add a custom Add-on collection, it asks me: Collection owner (User ID) What is my User ID? How do I add my custom collection so I can use my own add-ons? Apologies in advance if this is a silly question and I'm missing something obvious.

Hi

I recomend that you follow the official guide to this process at https://blog.mozilla.org/addons/2020/09/29/expanded-extension-support-in-firefox-for-android-nightly/. I have followed this myself to test my own add-ons and this guide works very well.

Thank you so much for the assistance!

My ID turned about to be the number in the link and Collection name had to be the one I gave initially. It's working just fine now.

A Note to OP

I'm currently using Firefox nightly for Android, simply for the reason of installing custom add-ons, rather than having to choose from the given list.

While Nightly does offer the option to install additional addons than the recommended ones by the stable build of Firefox for Android, using nightly for daily use is inherently unstable. Firefox Nightly is updated every night (hence, it's name) Firefox Nightly is directed towards it's developers and is not recommended for the typical user.

Fear not thought, I am not here to give you an ethics lesson on the use case of Firefox Nightly. Instead I'm replying to tell you about the free open source project Fennec. Unlike the inherent state of Nightly, Fennec Browser is recommended for daily use and is incredibly stable for an application that's source code is a fork of Nightly. Fennec is to Firefox as Brave is to Chrome. Additionally, the developers of Fennec have removed most of the telemetry that is built in to all of the Firefox builds. I have posted it's description below.

Browser that supports current and anticipated web standards.

  • Improved tracking protection that blocks over 2000 online trackers.
  • Private mode available in a single tap.
  • Customizable navigation bar position.
  • Dark theme.
  • Collections of tabs.
  • Synchronization across multiple devices.
  • Search widget.
  • Picture-in-picture mode.

Fennec F-Droid is based on the latest Firefox release (codenamed Fenix). It has proprietary bits and telemetry removed

If you would like to install Fennec it can be obtained from the project's public repository or from the F-Droid app store.

Note: You might also be able to find an APK for Fennec but the application wouldn't receive updates like if you were to download it from F-Droid. F-Droid can be installed on your device by first dowloading the APK from f-droid.org and Installing using the android package manager.

DISCLAIMER: YOU ASSUME ALL RESPONSIBILITY TO ANY ISSUES OR DAMAGES THAT MAY BE CAUSED TO YOUR DEVICE DURING THE INSTALLATION OF THE ABOVE APPLICATIONS. I ADMIT NO WRONG DOING FOR THIS POST OR COMMENT. THESE ARE MY OPINIONS AND MY OPINIONS ONLY. THANK YOU.

That said I can tell you I have used both FDroid for the past 3+ years and Fennec for 3 months. I have yet to run into a problem involving these application.

I had heard about Fennic but I did not know it was based on Firefox, that's excellent. I will definatly give it a try as it has the most important feature of syncing across devices for me.
