How to I change "switch to tab" when opening a second tab for the same site?

I sometimes want to open the same page in more than one tab. If I use the drop-down address menu, it automatically just switches me to the original tab. Under the address it says "switch to tab". That isn't what I'm wanting to do, so I need to know how to disable that feature.

  • Press the Shift key while an entry in the drop down list is highlighted to disable "Switch to Tab" and see the URL.
  • Use the cursor Right key to select an item marked as Switch to Tab in the drop down list and copy the URL to the location bar.
  • Open the URL in a new tab by using Alt + Enter on the highlighted entry.
  • Open the URL in the current tab by using Shift + Enter on the highlighted entry.

I must be doing something wrong, because it isn't working . It's just opening a new tab with my homepage.

Do you see "Switch to Tab" changing to the URL if you press the Shift key or the Alt key if an entry in the location bar drop down list is highlighted?

What happens if you hold down the Alt key on such an entry to make the URL appear and additionally press the Enter key (i.e. Alt+Enter) ?

That's when it opens a new tab with my home page showing.
