TB crashes with W10 1809
Hello, I have crashing problems with TB since my W10 box updated to 1809.
I have tried Safe Mode and I get no crash. If I disable all plugins and all UI modifications and start in normal mode it STILL crashes.
So I was wondering what may be the cause: are there other differences between "clean" normal mode and safe mode?
Here's one of my crash reports: https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/78a042eb-fdf7-4b63-b2fc-44d880190206#tab-details

Your crash report indicates the presence of Bitdefender. Have you tried running in W10 safe mode, to test the possibility BD is causing the crashes?
As for TB safe mode, this article explains what it implies:
I've been using Bitdefender for ages with no problem, but anything can happen with PCs so I guess I'll try to fiddle with that and report back.
No, I disabled Bitdefender but it crashes instantly anyway.
BUT in safe mode it doesn't seem to crash.
I also use Davmail gateway which is disabled in W10 safe mode, but when TB is in safe mode it's on and it works, so I don't think it's that.
Endret
If I make a fresh install, can I afterwards recover my accounts, messages, filters, contacts?
An uninstall and reinstall of TB doesn't affect the profile folder, which holds all your data, but it also seldom resolves problems like this, which are usually caused by issues in the profile.
If TB works in TB safe mode, and it isn't due to add-ons, consider the other effects of safe mode, i.e. hardware acceleration is disabled, the default theme is used, and the default layout is used, and the userChrome file is ignored.
Hardware acceleration is easy to test. The setting is under Tools/Options/Advanced/General. Use the default theme if you weren't already. Launch in safe mode and check 'Reset toolbars and controls' and click 'Make changes and restart'. If none of these steps result in no crashes with TB in normal mode, reply here with the outcome.
Thanks for the suggestions.
I have already disabled hardware acceleration, still get the crash.
I don't have any userChrome file, since I don't use any custom css.
I also Reset toolbars and controls, but I think I've always used the default theme and layout. And still the crash.
Hard to see why it doesn't crash in safe mode, but in cases like this a simple way to test the integrity of the current profile is to create a new profile with Profile Manager, set up an account, and see if it still crashes. To start PM, close TB, Windowskey+R and type thunderbird.exe -p
If that works, you can transfer the data from the old profile to the new one.
That page is incredibly useful. Instead of creating another profile I renamed the folder, then followed instructions for everything I wanted to keep.
It seems to work fine now. You are a very kind person and a wizard, I can't thank you enough.
