Thunderbird menu: Tools: Options: Display: Formatting tab See attached screenshot.
To adjust the size of the list text, as opposed to the size of the message text, use this add-on:

Per Bruce: I am not able to go to Tools, Options, Display, Formatting Tab. Tools does not have Options IN it. Also cannot find Formatting Tab anywhere. Ronnapi@sbcglobal.net

Mac user? Look under Preferences/Options.
I had found the tabs once, under tasks, somewhere, cannot find it again. When I did, and increased the font size, it only increased what I would Reply, NOT the Incoming mail text.
Click the "three bar" menu button, as depicted in my first screenshot below.
Then select: Options: Options. Then you can go to the Display section, and the Formatting tab, as show in the screenshot in my first reply above.
There you can change the size of the font for what you see in the program.
Thanks. However, it only works on the Outgoing Emails. Cant seem to find a way to get it permanent on INcoming Emails. Ron
I tested this, and yes, this doesn't work the way we expect it to.
When reading an e-mail, hold down the Ctrl key and press + (plus) or - (minus), to change the font size while reading an e-mail.
I've confirmed that if you do this with one e-mail, the same font size will display in all other e-mails you read.
That one works. Thanks a lot.
