I have a battery issue (computer not charging) with my Acer Laptop. I called tech support - the tech had me run Acer Recovery with the option to save data/files. It didn't fix the problem (and I didn't think it would) and I will need to send the computer in for repair.

However after running Recovery I found it uninstalled Thunderbird. I downloaded and reinstalled Thunderbird tonight, but now I don't have my e-mail accounts or e-mails.

I tried following the instructions here - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Importing_folders and here - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Thunderbird

i can't seem to locate my profiles OR the mail folders with the actual mail boxes. Please help. Thanks!

what exactly does the acer recovery do? I am guessing it did not just uninstall Thunderbird it wiped the disk back to the same state it was when it left the factory. So there is nothing left to find.

it wasn't a full fledged recovery.

The Tech had me use the Refresh option which states it will "refresh your PC without losing your photos, music, videos and other personal data"

Then it compiles a list of uninstalled programs afterward.

I don't even know why he bothered since this is clearly a hardware issue - not software related. The battery doesn't charge even when the PC is completely powered down; obviously the operating system has nothing to do with it at all.

But generally uninstall leaves the program directories and data files on the computer, unless one specifically deletes them.

I have three mail accounts, and they must have been fairly massive files from several years of e-mails.

Would it make sense to search by file size?

Go to the start menu and in the search box type %appdata%\thunderbird\profiles

In the explorer window that opens, what profile folders are visible?
