A certain URL redirects to Google

I have been visiting a certain URL for sometime. I know the site is still up. However, recently I had to use Incognito mode (not sure if this is a contributing factor, but it is a recent change). When I last visited this site, a pop up tells me that it does not know whether it can trust this site. I clicked on yes, trust the site and the browser installed a certificate(?) or something. I admit, I didn't read the pop up properly, as i assumed it was just a standard, "dont know if this site can be trusted, do you wish to continue" type pop up. Since, it installed or changed whatever setting it did, now everytime I go to the URL (and only this URL), whether the address is typed in, accessed through google search or from bookmarks, it redirects me to a google site search page. eg. the URL I am trying to access is www.abc.com, the browser will redirect me to a google search for the site:www.abc.com.

Does anyone know where I can change the setting to remove this redirect?

Hello,

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache. Note: This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to. To clear cache and cookies do the following:

  1. Click the menu button New Fx Menu, choose History, and then "Clear Recent History...".
  2. Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
  3. Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
  4. From the details list, check Cache and Cookies and uncheck everything else.
  5. Now click the "Clear Now" button.

First thing I tried. Unfortunately, it didn't work. I believe when I blindly clicked on the "proceed to URL", it added a redirect or something to the browser. Problem is that I cant find where the redirects are (or cookie or whatever it did). All other URLs work fine.

It Looks Like you Might have some Malware in the form of a Redirect or Hijack to Help you Better We have a List of Tools you can see below Step 1: Download AdwCleaner and run it. It will Produce a Text file after it is done Paste the Contents of the Search and I will Reveiw it for the Next Step if one is needed Also you Should Download and Run: Anti-Rootkit Utility - TDSSKiller This needs to Be Done in windows Safe Mode to insure you Get all Problem Software.

On a Side note you should Download Malware Bytes and run it often.

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one. Windows 8 has antivirus built-in already.

Open this chrome URI by pasting or typing this URI in the location/address bar to open the "Add Security Exception" window and check the certificate:

  • chrome://pippki/content/exceptionDialog.xul

In the location field type/paste the URL of the website

  • retrieve the certificate via the "Get certificate" button
  • click the "View..." button to inspect the certificate in the Certificate Viewer

You can inspect the certificate chain in Details tab of the Certificate Viewer.
