Unblocking previously blocked images from specific sites

more options

Firefox has recently removed the "block images" option from the Tools -> Options panel. I agree that this is a pretty reasonable change. However, there is a problem: I now want to unblock images on certain sites (such as fbstatic-a.akamaihd.net and other Facebook image domains) that I had previously blocked, but there is no way to do so. I've tried the add-ons ImageBlock and QuickJava, neither of which work. I've tried Tools -> Page Info -> Media, and then unchecking "Block images from ...", but as soon as I click somewhere else it reverts to blocking.

Any ideas of what I could do?

Never mind, I fixed it by installing an old version of firefox, unblocking everything, and then reinstalling the new version... not optimal, I know, but at least it didn't affect anything else :)

Hello,

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

1.Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information. 2.Click the "Reset Firefox" button. 3.Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish. 4.Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Are there less drastic methods of fixing the problem? Resetting everything would work, but I'd prefer something less disruptive if possible.

When using the Page Info dialog, on the Media tab, did you scroll down the list to a blocked image from each site and uncheck the box for each one? I think that should work, but for any open tabs, you will have to reload before it takes effect.

If the permissions.sqlite database that stores site-specific permissions has become corrupted and no longer updates properly, you can remove it and start building it up again, but this will affect other permissions such as exceptions you've created to allow some sites to show pop-ups, and your site-specific allow/block settings for cookies. So hopefully that won't be necessary.

Unchecking doesn't work. As soon as I scroll to the next image and then scroll back, it becomes checked again.

Could you try them one at a time? For example, on this page, I blocked images for one item from Gravatar, closed the dialog, and reloaded the page. User images are gone. I went back into the dialog, unchecked the block on one item from Gravatar, closed the dialog, and reloaded the page. User images are back (such as they are).

Still doesn't work. Anything that I hadn't blocked before, I can check (and uncheck) and immediately get the results wanted. But the facebook stuff that I've already blocked, I can never unblock successfully. As soon as I uncheck and move away, it's rechecked.

I guess all I can do is clear the permissions.sqlite then? Not sure how to do this.

You can inspect and manage the permissions for all domains on the about:permissions page or for the domain in the currently selected tab by clicking the "Site Identity Button" (globe/padlock) on the location bar and "More Information" to open "Page Info" and go to the Permissions tab.

You can delete the permissions.sqlite file to reset all permissions.

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:
