The Tracking setting in my Privacy section keeps changing, every so often, without my knowledge. I always want the first choice selected as I do not wish to be tracked.

Invariably, the setting is changed to the 2nd option "Tell Sites that I want to be tracked", but sometimes the 3rd selection is shown as being selected. I often do not know when the setting was changed.

Why is this happening and what can I do to resolve it.

This shouldn't be happening. If this or any other preference won't stay saved, the easiest way to fix the problem is to reset Firefox and then reset the preference. It should stay saved after that.

The instructions for resetting Firefox are in this article - Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes.

If you do not keep changes after a restart or otherwise have problems with preferences, see:
