My wife has Firefox 2.0 installed and wants to upgrade. But the "check for updates" menu item under Help is greyed out. I suspect it is because there is no single upgrade from such an ancient version to an up-to-date one.

The alternative is an installation of a recent version.

The problem: how to squirrel away her bookmarks so they survive the installation of the new version? I can't find a folder on the hard drive that looks anything like a Bookmarks folder...

I can not remember if v2 was exactly the same but v3 allows bookmarks to be exported, then re-imported as either .json or .html files.

Recent releases also try to keep bookmarks on upgrades, so with luck you see the same bookmarks after an upgrade.

Someone may give a more detailed answer specifically relating to v2 meanwhile you may find the article on Bookmarks of interest
