Your above posted system details show outdated plugin(s) with known security and stability risks.
- Shockwave Flash 10.0 r22
- Java Plug-in 1.6.0_11 for Netscape Navigator (DLL Helper)
Update the Flash plugin to the latest version.
Update the Java plugin to the latest version.

I'm afraid I don't really understand what you are trying to do. Please explain what you want Firefox to do when you click a link to a non-html file for us to suggest a solution which does what you want.
It's pretty basic what I want: WHENEVER I click on any link to download ANY type of file when using FireFox, Firefox Download is what is used. I want to use a different download manager I have installed. If I use IE, and I right click a like, I'm given the option to "Download With..." and I canchoose my download manager. Can't do that with FireFox.
Not really sure how much more simply I can explain it.
Which is the download manager you want to use?
You can use the FlashGot extension that I posted above to integrate another download manager in Firefox.

I would like to use a download manager of my choosing...Free Download Manager or otherwise.
I don't want to use any Firefox download manager, plug in or otherwise.
I am assuming there is just no way to use ANY download manager outside of Firefox.
Your assumption is wrong. Did you read what Flashgot is used for?
FlashGot is the free add-on for Firefox and Thunderbird, meant to handle single and massive ("all" and "selection") downloads with several external Download Managers.
- for Windows (BitComet, Download Accelerator Plus, DownloadStudio FlashGet, Free Download Manager, Fresh Download, GetRight, GigaGet, HiDownload, iGetter, InstantGet, Internet Download Accelerator, Internet Download Manager, JDownloader, LeechGet, Mass Downloader, Net Transport, NetXfer (Net Transport 2), NetAnts, Orbit, ReGet, Retriever*, Star Downloader, Thunder (Chinese only popular product), TrueDownloader and Ukrainian Download Master [Russian language only] ), Uget, WellGet, wxDFast
- for Linux / FreeBSD / other Unix-like OSes (Aria, Axel Download Accelerator, cURL, Downloader 4 X, GNOME Gwget, FatRat, JDownloader, KDE KGet, SteadyFlow, Uget, wxDFast ). Many Windows-only download manager are supported on Linux through Wine!
- for Mac OS X (Folx, iGetter, JDownloader Leech, PSD, Speed Download and wxDFast*)
Flashgot is problematic at best and a real pain at worst.
I use IDM and have the Firefox add-on installed and STILL the download manager is constantly interfering.
How do you turn the stupid thing OFF?
I use iGetter (found at download.com) with Flashgot. However, whenever I wish to download something I merely right click on the item bringing up the contextual menu and select Flashgot then iGetter. Once I click iGetter, its program automatically opens.
If I merely click a link, FireFox's default download manager will activate and begin to download!
