I'm stuck with a "Babylon" version of the "search the web" facility on the toolbar to the right of the address bar. I've searched for access to it but had no success. Can anyone help?

If it is a search engine in the search bar, see the search bar article for details of how to remove a search engine.

If you have the Babylon Toolbar, follow the procedure in the uninstalling add-ons article, in particular the section on uninstalling extensions and themes

Yay, THIS WORKS!

Just type about:config in the URL:bar and find keyword:URL and if it says "Babylon"-something just replace it with this: http://www.google.com/search?btnI=I%27m+Feeling+Lucky&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=

Here is what i did. First i removed the tool bar add on from fire fox. Then in the add remove program i removed the babylon.exe file. The searched my whole computer for any file containing babylon and removed it. Tho careful do not remove the file en-US.dic file. Not sure if it is related but i removed the file babylon.xml And finally i did a system restore to a previous point. And now i have no trace of that software. Hope this helped you.

hello !

first , i am one of the many many people who have had great difficulty , when it came to removing Babylon from a windows system .

with so many users having this problem , it makes me wonder just how honest a product is this Babylon ??
that being said , i don't think this is a browser problem .
Firefox is one of the several browsers that i have on my system . but in my situation , Babylon could not be cleanly removed from explorer 9 .
i believe the problem with Babylon is how it attaches [ or infest ] a windows system .
the typical , by the book windows answer for uninstalling a program , as most of us have already learned that this will often leave remnants of a now non functional program ?
in windows 7 this by the book uninstall of Babylon will still leave links to Babylon in your right hand click , and in your add/ons manager . not to mention at least a dozen links in the registry .
after you uninstall Babylon , go to system restore and create a manual restore point .
if you don't do this stop and just forget about the Babylon remnants !
after you have confirmed your new restore point , run [ regedit ] , at the top of this program click the [ edit ] link .

          when the [ edit ] opens , click [ find ] . when [ find ] opens , type in [ babylon ] , and click [ find next ] .
any item in your results that contains the word [ babylon ] , delete it . you will repeat this process at least a dozen times .
you are through when you click [ find next ] , and you get the message , [ finished searching registry ] . now close [ regedit ] , you are through .
when you open internet explorer , check your right click , and open your add/ons manager , Babylon should now be gone .
if an error should occur , go to system restore , and return your system to the manual restore point that you created before you edited the registry .
i am running windows 7 32-bit , and in my situation , no program i tried could clean up the remnants left after uninstalling Babylon .
and i am aware that tampering with the registry can cause serious system damage !!
after uninstalling Babylon , i did a search for [ babylon ]<-- all lower case . and there were NO , ZERO results for Babylon .
but when i did a registry search , [ babylon ]<-- all lower case , was still there .
this worked for me , just go slow , don't skip any steps . and only delete registry items that have the whole word [ babylon ] .
if Babylon is an honest program , then they sorely need to make it more user friendly , and not such a head-ache ????

Babylon is so annoying. I mean seriously, I don't go on dating websites! And I don't have 6 suiters can someone please tell me how destroy this Babylon Program from Firefox instead of just the search engine!

Nevermind, look for ruudong post. Its really helpful then when you done if the search engine is still Babylon then go into C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\searchplugins find the babylon bit and DESTROY IT!

Follow these instructions carefully and Babylon Search and its components will be history. I tried it on my computer and it works perfectly: In the Fire Fox browser url type in about.config. In filter type in Babylon. For browser.babylon.HP On New Tab Value, right click to modify and change settings to http://www.google.com/. For the rest, right click then reset. Also in Fire Fox menu >tools>Add-ons-uninstall all Babylon related add-ons, then restart browser. Babylon and all connected with it will be gone.

I was successfully able to remove it after performing below 3 steps.

1) Firefox -> Tools -> Add-ons ->Extensions -> Remove anything related Babylon. 2) Go to mozilla Firefox installation on your machine. In my case it is C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\searchplugins. Remove Babylon.xml. 3) In Firefox address bar, type about:config. Type 'babylon' in filter textbox at top. Right click on each entry and click reset option. I did it for every entry.

Hope it helps.

@mike1234, this is more or less, a question which has been solved (just not marked as solved) and so it's useless replying here.
