I updated my Firefox to 3.6.8 on Mac OS 10.6 and added flash player 10.0. It will not open up flash player at all and this only happened with the latest update.

This happened

Every time Firefox opened

Hello everyone.

If you're having a problem only with Flash, please contact Adobe for support.

That said, it's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check, and except Flash), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?

Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not caused by one (or more than one) of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in safe mode (don't forget to select Disable all add-ons when you start safe mode). Of course, safe mode is not good in this case, since it will disable Flash too. So disable all add-ons (except Flash)in normal mode and see if the problem goes away. If it doesn't, contact Adobe. If it does, enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See this article for information about troubleshooting extensions and themes and this one for plugins.

If you need support for one of your add-ons, you'll have to contact its author.

If the problem does not disappear when all add-ons are disabled, please tell me, so we can work from there. Please have no fear of following my instructions to the line, as all can be easily undone.

Hi, look in the plugins for Shockwave Flash vs.10.1.82.76 and make sure it is Enabled.

This worked for me. Flash 4.0 mac. Go to Firefox preferences/General/Change Preferences for your add-ons/Manage Add-ons

I found that the Shockwave Flash for some reason was disabled, apparently a foul-up occurring in installation. Just enable it.

TerryofMPS, your suggestion solved years of frustration. I gave up on Firefox after one upgrade kept demanding that I install Flash, further baffled and maddened that Firefox/Mozilla refused to make a simple post for a problem that obviously crippled their browser for many users.

Finally your tip made it clear: Just enable Shockwave Flash (Under Preferences/General/Managed Add-Ons).

Thank you! And phooey on Firefox engineers!

Hi JeniferParker,
You're replying to a thread that is over a year old. You should use https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/new where volunteers can get more details about your setup.

Right now, you can use http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/ to make sure your plugins are up to date.

Because this thread is so old and more people might start using it for their own questions, I'm going to lock it.
