History and cookies not being cleared in FF 114 and 115

After updating to FF 114, I noticed that my history and cookies were no longer being cleared according to my settings. Also, a particular page is now being opened as a pinned tab.

I reverted to FF 113, hoping that this would be fixed in 115. Today I tried 115.0.3, and history is still not being cleared. I have again reverted to FF 113.

I am on Windows 10. My history settings are to use Custom settings and clear history when Firefox closes. Cookie settings are to delete cookies and site data when FF closes.

Is there any intention to fix, or is this some new behavior that I am stuck with? Also, is there a way to clear the pinned tab behavior?

Thanks.

Hello,

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with history and cookies not being cleared in Firefox 114 and 115. As a fellow Firefox support volunteer, I understand how frustrating this can be. It seems like a bug in the recent updates, and I recommend keeping an eye on Mozilla's release notes for any upcoming fixes. As for the pinned tab behavior, you can right-click on the pinned tab and select "Unpin Tab" to remove it. I hope this helps, and please feel free to reach out if you have any more questions or need further assistance. We're here to help!

Yes, I could clear cache and unpin the pinned tab with user actions as a work around. However, I'd prefer not to have to do that. I'll stick with FF 113 (and FF 102 ESR on my other machine) for now and hope for a fix.

Thanks for the reply.

Does it still happen with all your extensions disabled?

Yes.

To be clear, this is happening to a page where I had previously pinned the tab before closing Firefox, so this seems to be part of the history/cache/state information that used to be cleared and now no longer is.

Make sure you have "Browsing & download history" enabled in the "Clear history when Firefox closes" settings. It clears all pinned tabs on closing for me in a new profile. An easy way to test a new profile is to install Developer Edition and see if it happens there or refresh your existing profile.

I do have the setting enabled; I have all of the settings in that area enabled except for "Site settings".

The problem seems not to be happening in fresh profile, so I imagine that there was some profile corruption at some point that has now become apparent. Or more apparent; I have been seeing minor cookie problems for the last several releases.

Is there any way to repair that other than starting over with a new/refreshed profile? Not wanting to be too whiny, but I have made a lot of customizations over the years, so I'm really not looking forward to reimplementing it all in a new profile.

Thanks!

Identifying what is causing a problem in a customized profile requires a lot of trial and error. Exit Firefox, backup your profile folder, rename the prefs.js file to something like prefs-old.js, start Firefox and see if the problem still occurs.

No headway on this problem. Copying prefs.js from 113 to a fresh 115 works fine, no issues seen, but that doesn't help me preserve other profile info (extensions and their settings and such).

I've tried upgrading from older profile backups, and this issue also occurs on an upgrade from 111 and 112 to 115. This makes me think that maybe it is a FF bug and not profile corruption.
