How do I update Thunderbird's app to the latest version ?
I have been having an issue with gmail through Thunderbird which blocked any sign in attempt I made, thankfully it is now fixed but in doing so it has left access to unsecure apps open. I now need to know how I update an app to the latest version so that I'm not vulnerable to attack, so can someone tell me how I do this without having to uninstall Thunderbird and then re-install. Thank you in advance.

Personally I just ignore what I consider extremely flawed advice from gmail about what is and is not secure. Perhaps a password is less secure, but I am not sure making folk use a web page security method for their email is any better than using a password. Once oAuth2.0 is "authorized" the tokens can last for a long time. Months even so Thunderbird just keeps using the token until it expires.
If you use an IMAP mail account you can change the authentication method to oAuth2.0, the same goes for outgoing servers. This allows the less secure apps thing to be turned off. Unfortunately Gmail do not offer an oAuth2.0 option for POP accounts, so if you want to use POP you will have to leave their less secure setting on to prevent it stopping you getting mail.
