I re-downloaded Firefox after the crash. I find that I am unable find my bookmarks. Also, I am unable to create folders in the browser bar to save different links to. How do I 1st, recover all my bookmarks and make folder in the browser bar? I do have an external drive that automatically saves everything on my computer but am unable to find any bookmarks saved. Anyone have a similar experience? Help!!

No such folder on desktop. The computer crashed while downloading a system update. The entire drive had to be wiped clean. I have reinstalled from the external drive my files, but no Old Firefox or anything Firefox). I don't know where my folders with my bookmarks went. Also, it doesn't seem to be possible to make a folder on the new Firefox I downloaded when the computer was up and running.

Are your backup direct copies, or did you use something else?

The folder you want to look for on the backup is; C:\Users\Fred\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database (bookmarks and history) in the Firefox profile folder.

I do not have any of the bookmarks on my computer since it crashed and the drive needed to be wiped clean. Let me ask this: Do the bookmarks live in Firefox or on my computer? I thought the bookmarks would live on the browser (but what do I know!). I had hoped that when I was able to log into firefox again then I would see my bookmarks in my browser.....I don't know where they are kept, I guess with the computer since they are no where to be found.....this makes me so sad. I cannot reconstruct them as there were quite a few over the years. Looks like its not possible to put folders for bookmarks on the header bar anymore....now I am completely lost. thanks for your help.....not sure its possible.

The Firefox folder only contains the Firefox programs. Settings, history, bookmarks and everything else are stored in several profile folders.

Unless you use sync or store your data elsewhere . . . . . .
