print selection
I have been using Thunderbird for a long time with few problems which were easily solved. I have always been able to select some text, click <ctrlp> and get a simple dilog to select a printer which then prints my selection to the selected printer. Now I get print preview of the entire e-mail requesting a printer. The whole e-mail then goes to that printer. I tried preferences to find a way to direct to another source but couldn't find anything.

Printing Tools NG has an option to print selected text only:
It took a bit of doing but it appears to be a satisfactory solution. Thanks
Hi, Indeed we can not select text to print anymore. Very strange in the time of paper shortage and environmental problems. How many trees it will cost a year the removing of this option? And the yearly costs of ink and paper? Updates are nice, but this update is a step back in dayly use. Better look first for real needs before removing an option. The cap between developers and the users is still big. For nearly 20 years I use Thunderbird. But now I have my doubts. It feels if they took the steeringwheel out of my car.
interesting that you are still printing emails. I stopped doing that about 20 years ago.
However I have been advised that it will be back, just not yet.

You make your assumptions too quickly.
I mostly receive invoices by email these days sometimes as attachments sometimes just in the email. In the latter case I must print them but I print them to PDF this way all my invoices are stored in the same format. I don't think I have ever printed emails out, never seen the point, and I have maintained all the accounts for my business in purely digital format for about the same 20 years as yourself. My PDF print driver is my default printer, in fact I so rarely use my printer to actually print to paper for anything now that I generally have to do a head clean first. Tell me a more efficient way to convert my emails to PDF and I'll happily stop being grumpy about Thunderbirds inability to print a selection!
Currently I have to copy the selection to something like Word and then print from that to PDF. Not impossible but a pain.
