I am moving from a Windows 7 PC with TB 68.10.0 to a Windows 10 PC with TB 78.0.1. Following the migration instructions, I copied the Profiles folder in the Appdata directory and placed it accordingly on the new machine. On startup TB tells me that it can't find any profile. Opening the about:profiles pane, it shows the newly created xxxxx.default-release and the migrated xxxxx.default. I choose to activate the old profile and set it as standard profile. Afterwards it opens and displays all old mails and folder structure etc.

Now, when I restart TB, I don't see any mail, folder etc., the menus aren't displayed and also can't change anything nor click on anything. The only way to get TB back is to delete the Appdata folders and restart TB. The same happens when installing TB 68 on the new machine, too. Thus, is there something to observe when migrating from TB 68 to TB 78 and/or switching from TB on Windows 7 to TB on Windows 10?

re :, I copied the Profiles folder in the Appdata directory

Can you confirm....Did you copy and paste the 'Profiles' folder or the 'Thunderbird' folder which contains the 'Profiles' folder ?

C:\Users\<Windows user name>\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\

Correct process is to copy the 'Thunderbird' folder and paste into the 'Roaming' folder.

Win7: Exit Thunderbird access C:\Users\<Windows user name>\AppData\Roaming\ Copy the 'Thunderbird' folder

Win10: Exit Thunderbird access : C:\Users\<Windows user name>\AppData\Roaming\ Delete the current Thunderbird folder located in 'Roaming' folder. Paste in the copied 'Thunderbird' folder into the 'Roaming' folder Start Thunderbird.

It will probably create a new profile and you then have to access 'about:profiles' to reselect the correct one as default. Then exit Thunderbird.

Start Thunderbird.
