How can I make the damn search bar longer ?

FF kept nagging me to upgrade to a newer version. I do mostly information researching and on the past versions you could just drag the search bar to make it bigger. You cannot do that in the newer version. I have the search bar separated from the address bar as I don't want to search from the address bar. [who comes up with these things! Two versions ago they made it so you had to go thru a long thing just to delete a bookmark. They finally changed it back, but I now hate when they make you upgrade]. Anyway, the search bar is so short I can't see what I type in. I research a lot of medical topics, and the terminology is very long. This short damned search bar is a fatal flaw for me. Any help very much appreciated.

You can still drag the search bar to make it bigger on Firefox Quantum. Place the pointer between the search bar and the address bar and you should see the pointer turn into the resize arrow.
