I recently did a factory reset of firefox because it was having several problems and it fixed them. Now I am going through the options to get things back to the way I like and I have a problem. Whenever I typed in the address bar the search box below the address bar would pop up and duplicate what I typed. I didn't have that before so I started changing things to get rid if it. First I went to - Options - Privacy Security - Address Bar and then to Options-search and unchecked everything in both windows. The pop up would still appear. Then I went to the config screen and - "browser.urlbar.oneOffSearches" set to false . The pop up still came up Then In the config screen I -- Double-clicked the browser.urlbar.autocomplete.enabled preference to switch the value from true to false This changes several options and did get rid of the pop up window but now after I type in an address the "enter" button will no longer load that address. I need to use the mouse and click the arrow in the address bar. What can I change to get the enter button to load the page in the address bar? If things are too messed up and I do another reset what else can I do to stop the pop address bar from coming up that won't break the "enter" key?

Try to modify these prefs on the about:config page.

  • browser.urlbar.oneOffSearches = false
  • browser.urlbar.maxRichResults = 0

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I accept the risk!" to continue.

Do you mean to do this AFTER resetting FF to defaults/refresh. I assume this is to stop the search box pop up below the address bar and not to get back the enter key function.

I went back and did a refresh to reset the configs. Your second line was the one that finally got rid of the pop up address suggestions. browser.urlbar.maxRichResults = 0

For some reason before doing this it would pop suggestions that were in current tabs.? If it was the first tab it would just mirror what I was typing. It seems kind of stupid to suggest things that are already in a tab. Unless there is a good reason for it they should eliminate the tab suggestion from the address suggestion box because there is no easy option to turn it off.
