Be nice? This software used to be about users - yet the developers/software writers or programmers on this support site, including the "description" of fixes in the continuous stream of Thunderbird updates are not written for "users" - which I find to be un-"nice". When us stupid people try to repeatedly explain or ask "stupid" questions, I have read what I have seen as biased responses regarding the "excellence" of the updated programming - something we, as users, are not. So, excuse those of us who are so stupid to actually want to use an email package that is understandable and doesn't require extensive programming backgrounds to set up the tools, options, etc., or truly even understanding the ramifications of IMAP versus POP3! That extreme bias on the last item was demonstrated in a very "Microsoft-or-nothing"-type of response: "well, you will have to find another email package" because his view was that ALL servers were now IMAP. Well, eeexccccuuusssseee me! I have read similar responses given to other users that minimize, dispute, or disregard the requests of those users and saying much the same as I was told. Seems you guys need to change the environment within your support group so that they do not continue down this road of belittling and pushing away users. You can bet, after giving you guys $20 for your new web site, I will not be recommending Thunderbird to any one. After nearly 15 years of using Thunderbird, I feel truly mislead, kicked out of the "club" and ripped off!

Don't understand synchronization with IMAP. I do not want what I do with emails on my computer to match how I manage emails on the server.

I can appreciate that it's a complex topic: I don't think it's any easier to explain than it is to understand. If you want to comment on the replies in that thread, I suggest adding them to that thread rather than leveling general accusations in a new question.

IMPORTANT: Since you want to have your messages on the server as a backup, when configuring your POP account settings, make sure not to let Thunderbird delete messages from the server EVER: not when downloading, not after a certain number of days, and not when deleting from Thunderbird. Double-check, triple-check, that setting before retrieving mail.
