hi johnpaul16, we have seen quite a number of similar reports about this issue in the last hours and this issue is likely caused by your symantec security software that is hooking into firefox (probably through a program/signature update done by them). other users reported that updating firefox in this situation helped with the crashes. you can download & install the latest firefox from https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/

will this lose all my tabs? and bookmarks?

no, your personal data like bookmarks, passwords tabs etc won't be affected by a firefox update.

problem not fixed.. dl update, restarted comp and same issue

In this case, please perform the following steps to give us a crash report ID that helps us find out more about the cause of the crash.

  1. On the keyboard, press [Windows] The image "Windows key" does not exist. + [R]. This should bring up a Run window that contains a text field.
  2. In that text field, type %APPDATA% and press Enter. An explorer window should open.
  3. From that explorer window, double-click on the Mozilla folder, then double-click on Firefox and then on Crash reports. Double-click on submitted.
  4. Now, you should see a list of files that contain reports. Go to View > Arrange Icons by > Modified to get the most recent files at the top of the window.
  5. Open the most recent 5 files with a text editor and copy the IDs.
  6. Paste each ID with bp- into the reply window on the forums.

Thanks in advance!

that was from 2015 not sure that's what we want

this is from over a year back so it won't shed any light on the current issue unfortunately. are you getting a mozilla crash reporter window? if so please submit your crash data!

no all I get it ff crashed. then window to safe mode or refresh and both do nothing,, it crashes

so you don't get a crash reporter windows like pictured in the Mozilla Crash Reporter article at all? in this case it will be hard to debug what is going on.

in case you are a user of norton/symantec products can you try temporarily uninstalling them for testing purposes and see if the firefox crashes continue...

yes I do get that

I tried to close nortons.. shut it nortons down and same issue

ok reporter I sent the details,.. plus her eis whats was in the box

This report also contains technical information about the state of the application when it crashed.

ok thanks for that, so it is indeed the crash caused by today's norton signature update that i had in mind. the report shows that you are still on the very outdated firefox version 38.0.5 at the tie of the crash though, so maybe try uninstalling firefox through the system control panel first before you attempt to download and install the latest version from https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/

if I do uninstall I will lose all my tabs and bookmarks

no, those are saved in your profile folder that won't get touched during an uninstall. in any way you can create a backup of it: Profiles - Where Firefox stores your bookmarks, passwords and other user data

what if I uninstall nortons? will that fix issue?

I have already installed update for FF
